REmake is the superior version of 1, that much is certain. Aren't 2 and 3 basically just ports of the PSX versions? I think they might look a bit better on Gamecube though .

This is wrong. First three RE games are best on PS1 if you have an eye for art. Remake on GC is also good. Avoid PC. 240p out to CRT is the only good way to play the original series

Sourcenext doesn't have the HD mod for Dolphin that the GC versions have. GC on Dolphin with the HD mod is the difinitive way to play RE 2 and 3

They are just ports but they have some slight graphical updates which are harmless and honestly really go a long way.

Yes, they're as good as it gets and Dolphin is just really neat and convenient. Plus now you have those AI upscaled mods for 2 and 3. REmake1 on PC has fucked lighting but I think there's a mod that fixes it so it could be the most definitive version, but I still prefer NGC version.

You should play both remake and original, perhaps not back-to-back to revisit one or the other after a while. They have substantial differences, REmake was meant to surprise old players.

RE1 PS1 and RE1 DC PS1 have minor differences, like changed enemy or item locations... Play RE1 DC if you ever want to do a third playthrough.

There are also two different version of the DC. Regular DC and DC DualShock version. Avoid the DualShock version, they fucked the music.
