Why was the EXP grind so real in this generation?

What did you mean by this? When do you have to grind in this game besides for the superboss?

I find myself having to grind for the elite four, but only on the rare occasion that I have a full team of six

>not rushing in with a shit ton of Revives and Full Restores and winning even if you're underleveled
It's a game for children.

You should hate when you don't have to grind to progress in rpgs. It becomes dull because you have no sense of progression.

Hello /u/gigadweeb, now go back to your containment sub.

You're supposed to play daily
& make marginal progress per routine
It's not meant to be steamrolled all at once

>> No.7020181

I recall that there was usually no need to grind on wild encounters as long as you don't skip any trainers, in most if not all Pokemon games back in the day.

>> No.7020192

Using the emulator code thingy I was able to find the hexes that control exp gain after battle and turned it off to make the game interesting.

That's a great idea. And changes the game totally.
You should make a romhack.

Didn't that one leak have internal documents where Q&A testers complained about the level scaling and tedium of it and Game Freak's response was "works as intended".

I beat Crystal when I was 7 OP, are you retarded

This 1000 times, grinding is necessary. If you don't feel a sense of satisfaction when your character progressively becomes able to tank hits or deal more damage then you aren't cut out for JRPGs.

I find that you don’t need to grind if you fight every battle. Don’t run from encounters, fight every trainer, get the exp share as soon as you can. I mean, it’s a kids game OP. Don’t be a pussy.

Very bad level curve.

>> No.7021061

Because you either get to Kanto and Steamroll it or you were smart and had another set of 6 mon that you liked and were suitable to the Kanto leaders.
It gets shitty when you're trying to evolve a bunch of pokemon at the end and your only option is the elite 4 with exp share while you abandon a maximum of 3 at daycares across the map.

Crystal is handily in the easiest 3rd of all pokemon games
It doesnt even significantly step up the difficulty over G/S the way Yellow did over R/B

I used to agree with you guys, but during my recent playthrough of crystal I decided to battle every trainer, rematch them everyday, and collect all the rare candies. Also many people don't explore Mt. Mortar or the Dark Cave. Honestly by the time I was done with Victory Road all of my mons were at level 42/43. Like this anon >>7020161 said. You have to go through this game slowly and savor the small parts.

>EXP grind so real
Didn't feel it. I mean the final bosses are much higher level than in Gen 1, but Gen 3 bosses didn't require any more or less grinding.

Btw, I beat Crystal underlevelled with Suicuine and some other legendary I caught with a masterball, plus 4 super common pokemons. It's not that hard if you bother to use healing items.

WTF does that even mean. It's Crystal. The game gives you a free Suicune,of cose I'm gonna use it.

It's pretty infamous for having wonky level progression, not sure why you're pretending to not know that. Still the best gen though.

>> No.7023173

I don't know what "so real" is supposed to mean in this context but I've never had to grind in a Pokemon game.
