Earthbound fandom isn't even bad from my own experience. I believe some of its fandom overlaps with Homestuck (and by proxy Undertale) but whatever, I'm not familiar with either of those so I just ignore.
Worst fandoms or most obnoxious are probably Sonic or Pokemon, or wait no, Final Fantasy is the legit worst one (look up "final fantasy house")

As a long running fan of Homestuck
1. Undertale is more popular than Homestuck ever was
2. I don't think Homestuck and EB have that much fan crossover besides both having fans who are young and enjoy video games. They can crossover for sure but I never saw it as particularly common. Homestuck itself does have a decent amount of Earthbound references itself, though which possibly could have got some fans into the game.

It really depends on what speedrunning you're looking at, typically any game will have categories.

If you look at something like Super Mario 64, there'll be speedrunning categories for getting all the stars in the game, only getting 70 (minimum to reach the last level), and there's a bunch of categories for less, and what not. If you look at something like 70 stars, people will use glitches, but they won't really be doing all that Ocarina Of Time bullshit where you use powerful autism magic to engage in arbitrary code execution to skip to the end credits, they actually have to go and collect 70 stars.

Likewise, a game like Doom has lots of categories (Pacifist, Tyson, Max, and then separation by difficulty levels), and lots of approaches. Some people will use smaller glitches like wallrunning and straferunning, things which are conducive to faster movement and can be learned with some practice, then you have shit like void gliding, which is difficult to learn and only really works in a few places in the games, and is only actually useful in like one or two, where you still have to thread a needle to make it useful.

I just like watching people who are really good at games I like. Super Mario 64 is a large game with lots of movement options, so it's very fun to see people who are exceptional at using them. Likewise, Doom can in some contexts be really challenging (generally the Final Doom expansions and/or Nightmare difficulty), and it's cool seeing some people being able to fight in the most insane of circumstances.

This level was actually thought to be impossible to be beat on Nightmare (essentially the joke difficulty level), until a few people succeeded, 14 years after Final Doom's release.

I agree that speedruns where someone just does a bunch of fiddling with a menu to skip to the end credits and thus bypassing the whole game isn't very fun to watch, but speedrunning can be a lot more than that. I like stuff like the previous video because tactics like these can be applied to normal non-speedrunning gameplay too.

I'm "chained" to Daggerfall. I've become some sort of Elder Scrolls "fan" but for the atmosphere of the games and the lore a couple interns write in the books and stuff.
What I mean with being chained to Daggerfall is that I have tried over 50 FUCKING times to beat it but every rom I download bugs in some quest or some dungeon and fucks up the main quest. I've come to use now a build that is fun to use but absolutely breaks and beats all other builds, and in all the 5 years I have been playing the game (not continuously, I'm not THAT autistic) I maybe have seen 0,01% of the map, and I believe I have missed nothing of interest.

So... it IS (for me) a very interesting game... which I love AND hate. It's a bug in game form. It's so huge it's retarded, as it doesn't matter a bit for a lot of the areas are copied and pasted, whole cities and dungeons, so it gets a little boring.

The fanbase wasn't always like that. I used to go to starmen.net starting back in 1999 when it was still earthbound.net to sometime in 2002. That puts me as being 11 to 14 at the time, and a lot of people in the community middling in that 14-19 age with a few 20somethings so I was on the younger side. It was just a silly and unpretentious community and nothing like the artsy super-liberal post-Undertale stuff now. Old starmen.net was kinda random and xD wacky but it was the early days of the web so it was fine.
I've tried going back to it every several years but it gets progressively worse each time. First, Mother 3 brought in a new part of the fanbase that became more and more intertwined with Reddit and artsy Tumblr faggotry as years passed. Then Undertale hit. Now it's 2020 and it's unrecognizable from what it was even in 2015, much less 1999.

Socialism is more compatible with market economies than capitalism, which requires government action to keep the bankers, investors, and landlords in charge. Most first world countries these days are capitalist/socialist hybrids. Fundamentally their economies are controlled by their capitalist classes, but they give their working classes some degree of power through union rights, minimum wage rights, and things like that. The closest the world has been to pure capitalism would be the system that dominated the world throughout the 1700s and 1800s. A typical work week was 70 hours and wages covered just barely enough to pay your living expenses until your next shift. It was even more violent and anti-freedom than communism, which is really saying something.

Japan's guilty-until-proven-innocent system is definitely fucked up. Their incarceration rate of 39 per 100,000 is pretty high too. But compare it against the American Prison Industrial complex which has achieved an incarceration rate of 64 per 100,000. Even if Japan's official crime statistics only report one fifth of all violent crime, it'd still be one of the safest places in the world.
