Why did Playstation games look and run better than N64 games? The PS1 is like 3 times weaker on paper compared to the N64. N64 games shouldn't look worse, they should at least look as good if not better.

N64 Blur-O-Vision > PSX Texture Warp

>> No.7004982

Probably because while technically more powerful, the N64 was such a catastrophic piece of shit design wise and such a nightmare to develop for that no developer, not even Nintendo themselves, were ever able to take full advantage of its capabilities.

They didn't.

The closest was Rare with Conker's Bad Fur Day. Hard to believe that game was a N64 game sometimes.

It sure runs like one. Seems like Nintendo gave up on trying to get more out of the hardware, a shame considering the SNES was way beyond with yoshi's island.

I mean more graphic power wise instead of frames.

This. It boggles my mind that people actually think that N64's slightly blurred textures look worse than jittering models and warped textures. The PS1 games that knew what they were doing knew how to minimize or hide those artifacts (or were just straight up 2d, let's be real, 3d was *slightly* premature), but who in their right mind thinks Tomb Raider looks better than SM64?

>N64's slightly blurred textures
We're being a little too generous there. There's also aggressive pop-in, fog, and extremely low res textures that are characteristic of the consoles visual style. The N64 basically looks like a modern game just extremely low poly, extremely blurry, and often extremely dark.

Still looks better than everything moving around when the camera tilts slightly.

I don't follow, is what you see not supposed to change when you move the camera?

Anyone got a list of 60fps N64 games? Gotta be a pretty short one, I'd expect.

Look at how the walls wobble and vibrate in ways they shouldn't. Unlike the N64's flaws, these are extremely distracting and immersion breaking.

F-Zero X, Bangai-O, the list goes on and on.....

Massive framerate drops are much worse. Textures wobbling a bit doesn't screw up the input polling.

something I'm sure never happened on psx

Usually not as extreme, but it happens in all games.

WOW! Another console war thread?? Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas!!

>> No.7005164

For the uninitiated this is a troll thread buoyed on by other sonyggers - of course the N64 games are far more advanced than PS1 ones which couldn't even match the first game on the N64.

I'm not convinced, the games are inferior visually in every way.

If you really think PS1 games run better than N64 check out Glover, Shadow Man, and South Park, all N64 ports to PS1... and they run like total dogshit.

>> No.7005206

>>7005025
Yeah, Rare made some great looking vistas on the N64 that you explored at like, 12 FPS

>> No.7005212

The wobbling is only really bad if you use an emulator that renders at hi res, it's not nearly that noticeable in native res.
You can't blame the PSX for emulators' ill-advised attempts at "enhancing" its graphics.

If you do want to play PSX games in hi res, look up PGXP.

In contrast, here's how the N64 handled an early PS1 3D title.

They were both shit.

SNES was peak retro. PSX/N64 are shit just play ps5 or whatever number they're up to.

lazy ports, just look how shit Rayman 2 looks on PS1 compared to N64, that's a game that showcases the real power gap

They didn't.

I replied to the wrong post but both ports of MML are really poorly optimized. The PC version chugs in the same areas as the N64 on a Pentium 450MHz and a Voodoo2 SLI.
