To be fair, doing a Google search for that doesn't tell you anything about the quality of the emulators.

As for the OP's question, any VisualBoy Advance fork will do. My personal favorite is VisualBoy Advance-M.

My parents tried playing Super Mario Brothers. They fell into the pits easilly, kept saying they had trouble with the buttons, there's only two you need to use and a dpad.

Emulators are programs that mimick the functions of other hardware, in this case, of game consoles. I'm not sure what you mean by "how does it exist", but you can play video games from consoles or handhelds in your PC through them.
