Do you miss cereal box PC games? They used to have them everywhere. By the mid 2000's most stores stopped carrying them, often vouching for DVD box size ones, usually a little thicker. I miss when they came in those big cereal boxes, even if they were mostly empty it felt really cool getting a game in such a large box. Like it was something important.

Yeah, there should be an archuve of 1200dpi scans of video game releases.
MobyGames compress them too much.

I remember going to sam's club as a kid and looking at all of them, nicely lined up on shelves. I wish I was old enough to purchase them at the time.

Legitimately thought you were talking about this. Why do you call cardboard boxes cereal boxes? Is it common for adults to eat cereal in the US?

>> No.7003825

I didn't appreciate them much at the time but glossy boxes have presence. The Sims was one that looked really good. Ruined because the ps2 made big boxes seem archaic and then mmorpg's finished them off. I had at least 50 of them but they took up so much space so I gutted them and folded them flat to make them fit in a cupboard. Still have some complete ones like such as Half life, need for speed and viper racing, the rest were pretty much budget rereleases that still look somewhat decent. Its actually pretty easy to make accurate replicas.

Call the big boxed games like everyone else, because cereal box games are an actual thing.

They came in big boxes for a reason, you know. It wasn't just because they thought it was "cool". Inside the box, you'd find

>multiple floppies or CDs
>manual (which was much larger and more thorough than the one any console game)
>some weird items that were the DRM of the day

Where are you from? I'm not from the US, but where I live, adults eat cereal 'bout as often as kids do

Wouldn't cardboard boxes like these be more environment friendly than dvd cases? I know they're made out of paper, but wood is a renewable source and paper decomposes. Unlike DVD cases that will literally get stuck into dolphins' buttholes and poke the eyes of sea turtles. At one point DVD cases were made thinner to use less plastic and the lid was made out of cardboard, so I think the big cardboard boxes were on the right track all along. I know the reason for big boxes was mostly about just shelf visibility and easier stocking, but it's crazy to think how much worse DVD cases are in every way except maybe for storaging. Many people threw away the big box anyway and were left with the jewel case, so in a way the old way of storaging games took even less space than DVD cases.

The most "environment friendly" option is digital, no box or package at all

Obviously, but when the shift from big boxes to DVD cases was made back when high speed internet connections weren't a common household thing, it was like turning pollution to the max for no reason. The fact that DVD cases were turned into half-plastic-half-cardboard combinations proves that whoever in charge of these decisions eventually acknowledged the environmental factor, so I don't understand why they stop making cardboard boxes in the first place. It's not like DVD boxes were that much more convenient.
