I started playing the SNES Secret of Mana and it feels like it was translated by a high school dropout. Final Fantasy IV is very much the same way, but with worse art. Why did it take them until 94 to get their shit together?

play the improvement romhack, it's a way better translation amongst other things

As Action RPGs they're pretty shit actually. Final Fantasy Adventure is the only one in the series where it's actually possible to DODGE things, and when you can't dodge it's just a normal RPG with shit balancing.

The later Mana games are WAY better. Legend of Mana is one of the most remarkably awesome games I've ever played, in general.

I loved FF Adventure as a kid, but for some reason, I've never been able to get into Secret of Mana. The whole presentation of the game feels like really lame generic JRPG stuff.
>dude, what if there was a little boy from a village and
FF Adventure kicks off with you as a prisoner being forced to fight tiger monsters in a Roman style arena, and that grabs you instantly.

More like Mecret of Sana, amirite?

Mana games have dogshit combat. Some of the worst in the entire action RPG genre.

>> No.7001236

I don't believe it but I love the first one. Secret of Mana was a let down compared to FF Adventure.

Adventure was good for a GB game. Still worth playing if you enjoy a simple diversion, but nothing groundbreaking.
Secret has fantastic music but is pretty shit otherwise.
Trials is great and an improvement over Secret in almost every aspect.
Legend is the best game in the series hands-down and one of the most unique and charming games I've ever played. The only major issues are the confusing level designs and respawning enemies, which unfortunately can make normal gameplay quickly become an exercise in monotony.

Extremly Based

I've never played Trials. Heard good things about it but it's the only one I haven't tried.

Secret of Mana is fun and cool, though. It was one of the first JRPGs I played, but still, I think it stands up. It's a classic for a reason. Trials is good too.

Secret of Mana is so frustrating to play, for the wrong reasons.
