A few years ago I found a copy of F1 Exhaust Heat for SNES for cheap, got really exited because it's a game I used to rent as a kid but never found for sale.

Went home, dug out my SNES and hooked it up to an old CRT only to be greeted with even worse than OP's pic, screen flickering and random scanlines. Went and emulated it instead.

>> No.6994251

>>6994241
No, you don't need to lower brightness at all. Right is exactly what the game looks like if you fired it up right now on any emulator with raw output. Left is a shader. In the original picture, the LCD shot is also being captured off-screen, rather than taking a proper screenshot. It's a dishonest meme image.

Left look like a picture of an actual CRT would look like.
In person a CRT doesn't look like that at all. That's were CRT filter in emulator always fail. They simulate the look of CRT pictures, which are never accurate to IRL.

You need to integer scale that mess.
>but anon, then it's too small
We can bump it up to the next highest integer, which for 1080p, is x5, or 1600x1200. We lose 60 rows of pixels from the top, and 60 from the bottom, for a total of 10%, which is within overscan, so that's perfectly fine. That brings us from 1280x960 to 1600x1080, which is a whopping 40% larger image. Pretty neat, right?

Here's a nice little size comparison to see how much bigger the screenspace is when go from 4x to 5x on the PS1, and how we can still do so even on 1080p screens.

i have seen how the 240p looks, and i like it, but as someone who does like the genesis, it annoys me to see undithered images,

i am looking into an emulation option for a Crt i have to make it 240p enabled, but it does seem to me 240p is not friendly to the genesis, or systems with low color counts, so is there any compromise i could take in this scenario?

No. 4 is also good and is what you're shooting for with RGB.
