Finally touching Mother 1 and boy it's a grind. Not even for money I just feel like I need Lloyd and Ana (who I just got) high enough to gain the HP just to survive. It has a lot of charm and even with the factory being so massive it was pretty straight forward. Auto is a godsend since it even heals which I didn't expect.

Got a laser beam from a drop in the factory which is nice but he does a good bit of damage with normal attack as long as it's not a harden enemy. I kind of wish Ana's psi abilities where more powerful since the most it seem she would do is around 30ish while main character is doing 60ish with a normal attack.

Fassad. Neither mother 1 and earthbound have good bosses imo. Mother 1 barely has anything that could be called bosses and sanctuary guardians were never that difficult–even without bottle rocket abuse.

Buy a plasma beam in Reiner's department store. It does pk beam beta damage. Which is quite strong.
It really does take a while for ana to learn good psi. Just remember to guard until she can start slinging strong spells. I think freeze beta is the first respectable thing she learns. I can't remember her move order. Maybe it's beam alpha.

Yeah just got Freeze Beta and Thunder Beta just under level 10 (as I said mostly just grind to get the HP over 50 because when they crit they hit hard) and Freeze does 30's and Thunder does around 50 which is nice but as I said Ninten is doing 60's with just a base hit and Lloyd is doing 40's so I just feel like the psi moves are kind of weirdly weak. Have the Psi moves list open and kind of annoying Ninten gets the stats buff moves when it really should go to Ana.

Ana is a solid "black magician" type character. It's a staple of the franchise to have the willowy, young girls be heavy damage dealers.
Ninten is the tank, physical damage dealer and white mage of Mother.

Party balance is just a little eschewed in Mother 1, because Lloyd and Ana have worse stat growths than Ninten in almost all areas. (Biggest exception is Ana's PP growth far outstrips Ninten's). If you've played Earthbound, you would find that Jeff and Paula are both much easier to use than their predecessors.

A word of advice is to go back to Magicant, if you haven't already, and talk to the swimming cats for their small upgrades to Lloyd and Ana. And it's generally a good idea to save any stat capsules in the game for them. Speed capsules especially, I would give those to Ana.
Something else that might help is to take advantage of Ninten's buff moves on Lloyd.

Its hard to put my finger on because mechanically it's the worst of the three. I think it's just the sheer audacity of Itoi for just deciding to tell his weird story on the NES of all places. If you examine each component of Mother 1 under a microscope, by all means it should be a crappy Dragon Quest knockoff but it somehow comes together to be an extremely memorable game.
Also as a sidenote, they actually recorded a full album of the games soundtrack back when it came out, with lyrics and choirs and everything.

Some of the tracks are pretty good, it's just a neat and weird piece of video game history. You can get it on vinyl, it has the games full chiptune soundtrack as well.

I guess but I just feel unless an enemy have strong defense even Lloyd physical attack does as much if not more than Ana magic. So she's not really a heavy damage dealer more a alright damage dealer who would have been better as the buffer of the group personally. Reading up the last party member is just a physical attacker as well so it's just weirdly balanced in ways that makes Ana just kind of worthless at least at this point outside of her Light Up Beta.

I think it kind of would have been interesting in mother 3 tried to throw a bone to mother 1 and tie it into the events of 2 and 3 more.

Something that's really bothered me is how quickly the event of the first game are forgotten. Even earthbound barely alludes to them despite being a sequel with the same antagonist. Especially when Giygas then was when he was likely at his strongest.
The story of Ninten, George, Mary and Giygas is so readily lost to time. It's sad, in universe and out of universe.

Mother 1 has a more personal story between the characters. Earthbound's plot is driven by prophecies n shit. Ness has no connection to Giygas or the melodies, the game is barely connected to mother 1.

the prophecy really has no place beyond kickstarting the game, and the game is pretty upfront with the fact that ness's main connection is with pokey. as far as connection goes, you, the player, is the one that has the connection to giygas, presumably if you played M1.
