I don't know why Sega (or anyone for that matter) doesn't just make a Neo Geo style cab that plays every game. Make it affordable, and the operator can download new games or just put in a huge HD that holds all the games, so the operator only has to pay for the code instead of buying a new cab for every game. You'd see arcade machines everywhere.

Once upon a time there was a game called Virtua Fighter 4 in Japan. It ran on a super, super experimental system for 2002 where it was connected to Sega's online network where it would store player profiles, and the players just had to swipe a card to access their data. It was such a ridiculously huge hit that EVERY major name in the arcade business eventually adopted their own network in Japan.

Now in America, there was no major proof of concept game like Virtua Fighter 4 to sell arcades on the prospect of these closed networks. Konami did experiment with bringing their version of it, called e-amuse, to the west for DDR Supernova, but it ultimately didn't make it past location testing. That caused a huge, huge problem since Japanese arcade machines slowly became more and more integrated with these networks, which there was just no way to access in America. A lot of modern Japanese arcade machines just outright won't play without being connected for authentication. That's the REAL reason you very, very rarely see Japanese arcade games localized after the 00s.

However, when Round1, a Japanese arcade chain, decided to branch out overseas, they retained the ability to connect to these networks due to their Japanese contracts. Hence why you'll literally never see a NESiCAxLive machine at any other arcade in the west. Konami did finally bring the e-Amuse network to the west because Dave and Busters wanted the new DDR game, though (Australia got a local e-amuse network because of the fucking TsumTsum arcade game, of all things). In other words, it all boils down to a huge difference in the way US and Japanese arcades operated that neither side was willing to compromise on. The US didn't want to fart around with network subscriptions and Japan didn't want to modify their online methods to something more palpable for western arcades (there ARE western arcade games that go online with a normal network).

>Still youd think someone like Raw Thrills wouldnt not want to combine say BBH and Terminator into one cabinet.
Because Raw Thrills has a borderline monopoly on US arcade machines, so encouraging buyers to buy less machines is retarded for them. It's not a case of "I could buy two Sega machines or I could buy 1 NeoGeo MVS". It's a case of "I could buy two Raw Thrills machines or I could buy 1 Raw Thrills machine that can hold multiple games".

I like Sega since they port their games onto PC and don't get anal about fan projects. One of their best recent games was a passion project by fans they hired. I wish they'd be consistent with working with the fans, though.

I'm really glad Nintendo never had the chance to buy them because I really don't want to be forced to play their games on a shitty handheld with drifting joysticks and an insufferably laggy and counterproductive user interface.

Everything else is right or subjective, but trying to deny Sega's achievements in advancement of video game technology is just retarded. For fuck's sake, they were proving real-time phong shading could be done in a video game back in fucking 1999.
