36 year old boomer who just beat his first Castlevania game today, Rondo of Blood. It was a lot of fun! What should I play from here? I have no interest in playing the whole series, but one or two more games to just have a taste of the best it has to offer would be welcome.
Also is it worth going back and doing the alternate routes, playing as Maria, etc.?

Play 3, 4, SoTN. If you want to play more, 1,2, Adventure Rebirth and SOTN.

He likes the 'real' castlevania games so there's no point in throwing out there metroidvanias.

Even if he did Aria of Sorrow is the best.

Now play the superior version of Dracula X only for the Super Nintendo.

I don't know Rondo but you have to play Castlevania 3 I think. Throw in the first one too if you want. It's pretty short; you might as well. Play 4 if you want to hear lots of amazing music. Otherwise you can skip it if you want. It doesn't sound like you should play 2, but you might consider listening to the soundtrack on YouTube, if you're into that. Skip N64 Castlevania(s). I don't really know about other ones... but I guess you should try SoTN or something to get a taste of that style of game. A lot of people seem to love it.

Dracula's Curse, Super Castlevania IV, Bloodlines

>> No.6984924

Thanks guys, I guess I'll play 4 next, then SotN. Between 4/Rondo/SotN I think that should be enough of Castlevania to have a good feel for the series.

Rondo is far from a "real" Castlevania game. Real Castlevanias have difficulty.

SotN because, you know, it's the direct sequel

Rondo may be one of the easier Classicvanias, but it's still way more of a challenge than any of the shit produced by IGA.

Worst fucking advice ever, in typical /vr/ fashion.

Like some others say SOtN is the direct sequel to this game, however the gameplay is very different.

I'd suggest Super Castlevania IV, it's a fairly easy romp with great graphics, music and atmosphere very few platformers even come close to matching, also is one of those must play retro seasonal Halloween games. Easy recommendation for sure.

Rondo is super hard and metroidvanias are easy.
