I've been playing Need for Speed Carbon with the Battle Royale mod. Almost finished with it actually. It's interesting, but unstable and vehicle rebalance is straight up terrible, I hate it.
Carbon is kind of in a weird territory here (being a late 2006 release which WAS on ps2/xb/gc but PC version being based on the 360 version) so I hope jannies don't freak out.
Hmm, I wonder if I can post about ProStreet about here too. It should fly just under the cutoff.

This isn't really retro, but it is /vroom/. I posted about Art of Rally in the last thread and then forgot, but saw a couple of questions. It certainly isn't a sim, but you can't just hold down go and divebomb corners. Throttle control and good braking for weight transfer is necessary, and even stuff like clutch-kicking helps. However, I like arcade racers and know fuck-all about IRL or sim racing, and I really enjoy it.

It has a nice career through the history of rally, and each group feels unique as the tech in the cars improves. The early cars are harder to drive fast, but mistakes are easier to recover from. But as they become faster and stickier with AWD, it does a good job of showing how by Group B errors were catastrophic.

Highly recommended. Lots of cars and feels complete. It's fun.

I remember Kronenberg lager had a kart racer on their website in the early 00s, which was a Micro Machines clone, with a simple upgrade and password save system. Because racing is as dead as adventure games nowadays? Any variety or plurality is gone. Like adventure games that all have devolved into the same cookie cutter open world, cinematic shit with the same cinemtaic "experience" and the same basic bitch crafting, modern racing games are the same. They try way too hard with the realism or the cinematic shit that they are barely racing games anymore. For example Dirty 4 was just a worse Dirt Rally because muh realism. Doing proper, fun arcade racing is apparently the devil. So we got half baked shit that didn't held a candle against the older ones. Need for Speed isn't fun anymore. They refuse to stick to proper arcade handling but then stuff the game to the brim with driving aides that wont work. Fucking NFS2015 is pretty much unplayable for that very reason.
Also variety is dead. When was the last time you saw a new futuristic racer that wasn't just okay? Or a proper import tuner game? Or just racing super cars? They even ruined the last good series, Forza Horizon with their MMO and games-as-a-service meme shit.
And everything needs to be this cringy hodge podge of the same muscle, super and JDM cars with the same widebody kits, stancefaggotry and all the sucky tryhard shit of the modern "enthusiast" scene.

In contrast to this, generation 5, 6 and 7 (yeah not retro, don't care) are full to the brim with an amazing variety of great racing games of all types and every subgenre was alive and prospering.
You should rather ask yourself, why would you NOT play retro racing games if you claim to enjoy the genre? There is great racing to be had that would last you a lifetime even if you primarily play racing games like I do.

Pic related: A small, budget, faux retro racer made by Brazilian huemonkeys to emulate thefeel of retro racing.
And one of the best racers in 2018 just because it broke the current mold. It was literally fresh among current games because it looked backwards.

Weebshit is anime stuff. Screeching anime girls and waifu bait for now reason or forced drama where it doesn't belong. Or Intial D stuff because it attracts the worst kind of car "fans".

Guys I'm having an existential crisis here. I was playing gran turismo 4 and I've always loved the game for its wide selection of pure american muscle cars.
However when Ioaded up the game it said that the producer was someone anem kazuma yukinochi or whatever. I never thought gran turismo was weebshit but I think it might be.
I always just avoided the japanese cars and I didn't even do rally events because it looked to much like drifitng from that shitty anime intial d (more like initial chud am I right?) I've always enjoyed gran turismo but now I'm unsure what to do.
This shitty gook jap game drew me in with rock music and american muscle but now I'm taken out of the experience. I fucking hate weebshit and it turns out that my favorite game is weebshit. fuck sake.

The real secret is basically racing games aren't easy to turn into lootbox machines without being blatantly obvious and turning people away as you fundamentally need good gameplay to cause people to keep playing and spending dosh. Forza Horizon 4 is a game explicitly designed to appeal to the zoomer (as in, actual zoomers, no meme bullshit) crowd. Consider this: most of the unlocks in FH4 are based around the player avatar rather than cars and parts. It is part of a wider push of the industry and racing games - like RTS don't monetise well with the new paradigm.

There is an interesting GDC talk somewhere which boils down to "zoomers" care less about gameplay than they do about making their ingame avatar special and unique with clothes, dances and the like. If you pay attention nearly all of the mega games from recent years have had character customisation at the forefront of the game - ahead of any actual gameplay mechanics.

tl;dr Racing is dead because you can't jew consoomers with it easily and it requires good game design.

or kart racer. Nothing wrong with those kinda games but no simulation racer has come close to the quality of Forza 4, but that's not retro or GT4 for that matter and most arcade racers made by indies can never match up to the retro feel of an old school arcade racer

>In Japan, a limited edition of the FC called Infini was available with production limited to only 600 cars for each year. Some special noted features for all Infini series are: infini logo on the rear, upgraded suspension, upgraded ECU, higher power output of the engine, lightened weight, 15-inch BBS aluminum alloy wheels, Infini logo steering wheel, aero bumper kits, bronze colored window glass, floor bar on the passenger side, aluminum bonnet with scoop, flare, and holder. The car was thought as the pinnacle of the RX-7 series (until the introduction of the FD). The Infini IV came with other special items such as black bucket seats, 16-inch BBS wheels, Knee pads, and all the other items mentioned before. There are differing years for the Infini, which denoted the series. Series I was introduced in 1987, Series II was introduced in 1988, Series III was introduced in 1990, and Series IV was introduced in 1991. Series I and II came in White or Black exterior colours,
>Series III came in Forest Green only, and Series IV came in Forest Green or Noble Green exterior colours.
Seems like it's actually reflecting real life. If you want more colors, look for the GT-X model.

Problem is balance is totally and utterly fucked. HP rating is basically meaningless as its entirely down to gearing (i.e the 500bhp monster cosworth you can make is slow as fuck compared to a 400bhp GTR). Half of the cars are not good for events you think they are. I mean, who the fuck would wager than a ford GT is better or circuit racing that speed events? Plus the inherent speed cap so top tier drag cars blow their engine unless you lay off the acceleration.

For all of my complaints I do actually really like the game and have completed it 4 times since release but make no mistake it has a bad rep for a reason.

I think Namco wanted to take RR in a different direction Bugbear had the skills (and were probably cheap as fuck) to make a decent game. Issue is people don't want something different - they want RR: newer, HD edition. Same sort of deal wipeout fusion ran into - psygnosis wanted to change it up but people didn't want that.

>> No.7011796

>>7011424
On PC almost every game supports analog gas and brake. But you need a decent controller than can configure themselves to whatever kind of axes the game expects. a 360 controller won't work for anything because they put the two triggers on the same axis. A DualShock 4 with DS4windows will get analog gas/brake in just about anything if you know how to configure for each game.

On the console side of things, for some PS1 games like NFS, Gran Turismo, Ridge Racer you can map your controller to a NeGcon which has analog gas and brake and better analog steering. For PS2 games you can probably map your controller to a pretend steering wheel but I have never tried.
Another thing is that all buttons on a PS2 controller are pressure sensitive, even L2/R2. So in PCSX2 you can set your triggers to L2/R2 and turn the sensitivity way down (0.3 or 30% or something i don't remember) and in Gran Turismo you can map gas/brake to L2/R2 and there you go, pretty much perfect analog gas/brake in the GT games.

thanks for reading my info dump

been playing txr3 and I've been thinking: it'd be nice to have a cheat code/patch for the game that fixes the whirlwind fanfare and exotic butterfly. i.e. find the reference to the 100,000,000 and 20,000,000 price tag in the code, and change them to 1,000,000 and 200,000 respectively (because the original error was caused by not converting the amounts for those price points from yen to dollars, and you can get an estimation by just cutting off two zeros).
I tried looking at it myself, but I can't for the life of me get disassemblers/memory editors/etc to work (in particular, I kept searching for 20,000,000 in hex and couldn't find anything). Would be nice if someone more adept could take a look...

NA2 is 3.2 (NA1 is 3.0) though, and popups was still a thing in 1997 NSX when it happened.

has racing lagoon ever gotten a fan translation? I can't find anything but it might just be obscure.

from what i've played the racing is trash, though

>>7021297
honestly I want to play it more for the style than the racing. Guess I'll have to keep waiting.

the world map looks great but otherwise it's pretty substandard graphically, the character designs look like something out of some kind of horrifying nightmare too

hello spergzoomer, back in the mid 2000s nobody was ricing out top spec models, any car with a stupid bodykit you seen on it was going to be a lower end model and thats the whole point

Does anyone know how to fix the issue with lights appearing through walls and other cars in Gran Turismo 4 on PCSX2? The PCSX2 support page lists the issue as "Fixed", but I've encountered it in every version of PCSX2 I've tried (various 1.5.0 devbuilds, 1.6.0 and newer 1.7.0 devbuilds). Even with OpenGL (Hardware) renderer and Blending set to High. Pretty obnoxious on night races when otherwise the game looks great.
