Thinking of playing either D or Scratches, if either is easily obtainable. Always interested in D as a kid and never heard of Scratches until now. Which do?

I'd be careful...do you even know what "D" stands for? You may be in for a bit of a....SHOCK!!!

>>6981798
D is a bit of a clusterfuck and honestly a shit game. It's only real value as a curiosity since it plays like ass. It's short though but the ingame time limit and no saves means that you probably have to play it a few times before you finish it.
Scratches is a pretty decent point and click adventure game that oozes good atmosphere that mostly does a good job carrying it to the very end. Don't bother with the Director's cut added thing unless you're really invested in the story.

Yeah, you know what, watched some videos of D and definitely lost all desire to play it.
Not even really interested in Scratches, even though it looks well-done. Feeling something more side-scroller for some reason.

It's very interesting at least. It's a shame that pretty much every other game in the series missed what made it cool.

Just beat this and SH1 like a week ago, either moving onto SH3 or maybe something a little off-canon like Siren or Fatal Frame, maybe even Rule of Rose. Loved SH1, thought SH2 was slightly better but neither is quite the horror / "melancholy as art" experience I was really looking for. What am I in for with 3?

Unfortunately this is too easy. I never got to see the cool sanity effects.

>> No.6991009

>>6990951
3 is more like 1 than it is 2. You're not going to think of it as art and the melancholy mood only really applies to 2 so if that was a miss you're out of luck. A lot of people have split opinions about 3 but it ramps up the horror a lot and I think might be the scariest of the SH games but I also don't really find SH 2 scary at all and SH 1 is my favorite horror game ever so I've played it too many times to remember what actually scared me about it
