I've always wondered what you guys think of the Metroid Prime games and now that gen 6 is allowed I can openly ask about it. Well, /vr/ which one do you like more: 1 or 2?

>> No.6977084

Playing through prime for the first time right now and and its pretty good. I'm only 20% through it right now though.

Thardus just finished raping me with his 10ft granite dick so I'm taking a break. Gonna come back to it tonight.

>> No.6977091

Prime 1 is better, but Prime 2 is also solid.

>> No.6977131

You know, for some reason, that while prime 1 uses more typical metroid locations, I still feel more in awe of its locations that prime 2's.

I honestly think Prime 2 is the better game. I felt like the overworld flows better and gets you to where you need to be more efficiently, although this does result in the game being a bit more linear at times.

Prime 2 had some amazing OST and locations, truly alien and unique to the new race established in the game. Also I feel the combat in Prime 2 was better done and the boss fights are super memorable, like the Chykka fight or Quadraxis. Right now I'm just playing through Prime 1 on retroarch, it's still fun all these years later.

Not very similar. Prime tends to be more about holding a lockon button and focusing on movement/dodging. Much more verticality too. If you want a more conventional FPS experience and have a decent computer look into Primehack. Adds mouse and keyboard / mouselook support to the Trilogy release on wii and is my prefered way to play the series nowadays. Either way though hope you have fun with it anon

Well yeah, shooters are unplayable on consoles without some pretty heavy aim assist. The best FPS that were built from the ground up with consoles in mind, TimeSplitters series for example, utilize a generous aim assist system combined with shots hitstunning enemies, and it feels pretty great.

Is that more casual than something like Operation Flashpoint with a mouse and keyboard? Sure, but that doesn't mean it's bad, it's just different.

I played MP1 recently for the first time in years and there were only two artifacts for me to find at the end of the game. It meshes great with the scaling of your powerups as you play the game normally, I don't get why people treat it like a keyhunt on the level of Dark Ing or the actual keys in 3.

The problems with Prime are minor, but they exist.
Prime 1 has too many rooms with unavoidable combat. Those Chozo ghosts and troopers that constantly respawn are the worst, and make exploring grating sometimes. Not to mention, the choke point connecting where you're forced to move through Magmoor Caverns multiple times in back tracking just, in retrospect, feels pretty bad and kills some flow.
Prime 2 does feel better in this regard, though the dark world movement is a cool mechanic, it doesn't feel great until you get the light suit. Prime 2 in general is a harder game, the world is more coherent to explore and has better world design. Some might find it too hard and frustrating though. Prime 2 is close to being perfect, Prime 1 isn't far behind. Prime 3 is fun, and has good ideas, but is the weakest in some regards.

I've played both and Republic Commando is way better. There is no reason to play Jedi Knight 2 since Jedi Academy exists, no one wants to play a DOOM clone for half a game only to get inferior lightsaber combat when compared to JA. Republic Commando also has way better characterization and set pieces.

I fucking hate this logic and the fact that it's so common. Like you're only ever allowed to play the very peak of a genre and everything else is worthless dog shit.
Like how boring do you have to be to not enjoy a bunch of varying quality stuff in your hobby. It would be like claiming a single movie was the best ever and never watching any other and shitting on someone for doing the same. It's stupid.

I meant it more from a gameplay perspective, if I'm in the mood for lightsaber slashy shit and I don't have a JKII save set up then I'll just start a new JA game. Obviously if I'm in the mood to play JKII usually for nostalgia or story purposes then I'll boot it up. I'm not saying there is no reason to play any other Star Wars games, they all have they're merits but I just prefer JA over JKII.
