Technical limitations includes a lack of understanding about how to manipulate the hardware and code. That's also why late gen games tend to be more technically impressive than early gen games

I assume some of the technical limitations had to do with being able to mount and dismount Yoshi.

He had thought of it though. A couple of off choices a side, a lot of what was in the SE's was just what was meant to be there. The Jabba scene was meant to be in the movie with a stop motion puppet, but they couldn't make it look natural enough. Obviously "Cloud City" was meant to look more like a city. This was realised. Not hard to believe he wanted more weird alien shit walking around on Tatooine, but wasn't able to realise it at the time.

It's likely that getting Yoshi to work the particular way he works was the actual issue. Having a sprite swap for a mount is all well and good, but Yoshi is a bit more than just that. I don't know if it would be possible, but I can believe getting it to work on first generation NES cartridges might have been tricky.

He only made the special editions to cut his ex-wife out of royalties.

Ever wonder why you can never see the original cuts? No-one is that anal (except if your trying to get back at your bitch ex-wife)

Adventure Island 3 also has you riding dinosaurs. But >>6975081 is right. Look at how NES games were before Super Mario Bros. Most were very simple games.

>> No.6975212

That's a bootleg imitating what was done, and probably in a way Nintendo wouldn't do

>> No.6975228

>>6975205
So why make three different revisions of the special editions? No one's saying you have to like them, but I don't have a hard time believing he actually did just want to make the movies the way he wanted to make them.

>>6975081
The actual hardware in NES cartidges also improved over time.

He fucked up too much with the first Special Edition and after fans complained he was like "eh, fuck it, I already edited it once, might as well do it again."
If you were to ask for a re-release of an older special edition, he probably wouldn't give a fuck and just put it out there, but of course, nobody wants that shit, they want the original version.

>> No.6975253

>>6975248
Don't know why this elaborate conspiracy theory is more believably than Lucas being kind of autistic and wanting dinosaurs walking around in the background.

>> No.6976818

I think the main issue was probably that they'd go over the scanline limit since NES sprites are only 8x8 pixels. But I also guess that the programming code for all of Yoshi's actions/physics was more than they could fit into the NES's 32k of ROM space and still have enough room for everything else.

>>6975235
And no, a mapper won't fix that.

>The Jabba scene was meant to be in the movie with a stop motion puppet, but they couldn't make it look natural enough.
Retcon, they literally had a fat British actor in full costume as "Jabba" in that scene, they cut it because half the dialogue was a repeat of the Greedo scene, which also did a better job of establishing Han's character with the "shot first" meme.

Nintenonce cope

>> No.6977272

He wasn't lying, most 1st gen games are software done by inexperienced programmers on that said platform. As time passes by, more technical knowledge is gathered, and things like hacks, optimizations and libraries are created. This is why pirated versions done on 1995 are technically incredible.

>> No.6977275

It's not "cope", it's because the hardware literally wasn't there yet.

>> No.6978587

Doesn't matter. Neither of those fix the basic technical limitations of the hardware such as the tiny sprites or only being able to see 40k of code/graphics at once.

>> No.6978616

For one thing, it would use up too many sprites and not leave enough for enemies and other stuff on screen.

The technical limitations that were present while they were making the first game you dumb kid. By the time DDP/USA happened there was a better understanding of how to make NES games and better hardware in the cartridges themselves so Nintendo and other developers were able to realize better and more complex designs. As for why Yoshi didn't enter the Nario series until SMW I imagine it was down to memory limitations so they held off of it until the SNES.

It's funny, I was one of those rabid Star Wars fans who ranted and raved over what he did to the special editions and how awful Phantom Menace was, but over time I've mellowed a lot and now just accept it as a creator aging and taking another look at his work. Other than the Greedo scene I now don't take issue with any of it, even Hayden as Anakin in RotJ and Phantom Menace in it's context is actually the creepiest Star Wars and holds up well along with the others.

The Disney movies are a weirdo fanfiction clusterfuck though.
