This is one of my all time favorites that I feel is overlooked quite often because it is quite difficult but very rewarding if you get the hang of it. The game takes place over three days and you play small episodes or scenarios with a variety of character at different points in time. So you get to see how things change over time from various points of view. As you complete these scenarios eventually you will unlock secondary objectives in scenarios you have already played which in turn by completing these while replaying old scenarios will unlock even more scenarios. Doing things like unlocking a door or finding a specific item in one character's scenario will carry over to another character in a different scenario which will allow them to access a new area and hopefully complete new objectives. Its very easy to get stuck as some things needed for specific objectives aren't exactly obvious so I would recommend using a guide for this one. Definitely an underrated gem that I wish got more love even though it is kinda hard to get into at first.

Who considers them to be the king of horror games? The first somewhat spooky RE is 7. Every classic RE is schlocky B movie cringe, the only horror to be found is in the horrific writing and acting. If you found this shit scary as a kid, you'd have been traumatized for life watching freddy or jason. Silent Hill games are very atmospheric and immersive, but they aren't scary. The player is just too capable in relation to the threats you face, which is an absolute deal breaker when it comes to effective vidya horror.

Consider your typical slasher movie. Why does nobody carry a gun, despite there being more guns than people in the US? Because if they did, you wouldn't have a movie. Your protagonist needs to be vulnerable and feel pursued by a threat they can't physically overcome. In Silent Hill and Resident Evil, you're given more than enough ammo to smoke every motherfucker you encounter, how the fuck is this horror?

>Yes, I've chosen to ignore your repeated episodes of 8ch related PTSD. They really did a number on you, jesus.
Yes. You've chosen to ignore the posts that blatantly point out you didn't even play through scratches enough to get to the horror sections and the fact that nothing you said stands without any atmosphere. Desperate for any chance to not look like a fool you decided grasped for any straw you could and used the fact I mentioned 8ch as a copout, because I also pointed out your smug loli tactic they employed a lot there.

And you're going to pretend cripple-channers didn't act the same way about here? Half the memes about 8ch are a red anon throwing a green anon back to 4chan. Yet here you are getting your ass beat and pretending it's not happening because I'm also using your own shit against you.

So far I've streamed Silent Hill (in one sitting), Clock Tower SNES (fucking overrated trash), and currently on Parasite Eve.

Considering D and DOOM on psx as well.

I just tried to play first Resident Evil and holy shit the tank controls are absolutely unbearable on a small D-pad, I get they put them because of system limitations and fixed camera angles but it feels so stiff and unresponsive, on keyboard it was at least playable, I completed first 4 Silent Hill games on PC that way
I guess I will switch to PC version then

The original Silent Hill games are all pretty short and around 7-8 hours in length
The RE games are even shorter if you go through them only once

Is The Suffering still worth playing? I'm trying to decide between this and Condemned

Good taste anon. I'd like them to go back to the series, it feels like they never quite got it perfect and there's still a lot of potential in the concept.

It invented the stuck door simulator, without it we wouldn't have Silent Hill.

Honestly I tried it for the first time recently and it was much better than expected despite being clunky to control.

I played The Suffering but only played the sequel to Condemned. They're 2 completely different games, both in gameplay and tone, and both good for different reasons.
The Suffering is very B-Movie-ish if that's what you're after. You're on a cursed prison island fighting monsters inspired by different forms of execution. There are important ghosts who are like the boss for a certain section of a game, but they aren't really your enemies or are directly hostile towards you. Their tone towards you is pretty neutral/friendly even though they are throwing waves of enemies, traps and are trying to kill you. At least that's how I remember it. The gameplay is 3rd person shooter where you have no limit on how many guns you're carrying, like Max Payne without the jumping/slow-mo
Condemned is a dark gritty game where the entire homeless population went crazy and became a bunch of serial killers. I remember the second game had grounded sketchy locations like meth labs in abandoned apartments and other homeless/crack head place.... before it went to shit halfway through and became a generic shooter (first game doesn't do this I think). It's a first person melee hobo punching game where you do shit like rip pipes off the walls to beat the crap out of crackheads.

I'm finally playing this after having it for over a decade, pretty decent so far and digging the atmosphere a lot. Aiming's a bitch on console though, I can hardly fucking see the laser dot to hit headshots. Checkpoints are random as hell too.

Wondering if I should be playing this on PC instead, the framerate gets pretty choppy above ship with the bajillion particle effects and moving objects.

some advice:
- rotate multiple saves - you can get stuck and/or get in an endless death loop if you're not careful
- once the game takes a certain very unusual turn in tone, you might want to consult a walkthrough to keep your head straight

otherwise it's a blast! have fun anon
