Now I can understand where Chris/Christine is coming from. Reading all those Nintendo Powers growing up. The way they are written. Like they are describing an alternate reality where you are in some sort of secret club. You are tangentially part of the industry. Involved in the process. And everyone is your friend. That game counselor in that ad. That person who answers the letters column. You even have "insider information." You might believe you've been being to trade shows showing off the latest games that won't come out for another six months, when you've done no such thing. Or you're like Captain N, entering the game worlds every time you turn on the game. Or if anything, you belong to some sub-culture of Nintendo players who are all slightly more special than the average citizen for their video game awarness. You're involved in this story. It's like a movie, where everyone knows your name. And for a brief moment, you can believe you are significant.

Reminds me of a post on /pol/ where some anon was talking about how the magnets in earbuds were probably causing kids to turn gay, until people pointed out that the fucking Sony Walkman had in-ear headphones.

i got Nintendo Power as a child. it was full of fluff, junk, and even had wrong and confusing info. sometimes the editors would get pissy in the letter section.

i thought it was cool when i was 6, but wow it was full of filler and bullshit looking back.

well that's obvious.

someone else got Game Informer, and it was the same thing with a different coat of paint.

You don't know how hard it was to get information before the world wide web. You either forgot how shitty it was, or weren't born yet.

Every magazine has sounded like that, for the past century. Advertising uses that technique a lot, to make you feel like you're "in" on something. What you've demonstrated is that the only thing you've read is Nintendo Power, so you think you've arrived at some conclusion unique to Nintendo Power. You need to read more, you lunatic.

Game Informer was always the Poor Kid's gaming magazine. I have a Game Informer #1. It's nothing but a pack in catalog advertisement that a Cashier would slide into your bag with out even asking.

I’ve been looking through a lot of old gaming magazines lately and the editors getting pissy in the letters section is surprisingly universal.

Nintendo Power didn't create Chris-chan but they certainly did enable him by publishing his autism at least twice. There was a letter where he talked about a dating sim helping him with relationships and they said his Animal Crossing video he mailed them was "amazing". The video is full of Love Quest spergyness and he sings "So Need a Cute Girl" (tell me why I'M STUCK AS A VIRGIN WITH RAGE) in the first few minutes.
