Is it possible to overclock old computer to the point that they can run flawlessly? Or you have to cope with how they are out of the box?

>> No.6962401

It's all electricity in the end. You can overclock even a 1992 Tandy to be faster than a modern 2020 PC. You just need proper cooling.

>> No.6962410

No.

>> No.6962421

It's definitely possible to overclock them to the point that they no longer run flawlessly.

Define "flawlessly". If you mean will you be able to play games that require a much more modern and powerful CPU then no, you can't do that. Old i3-2120s make good retro gaming PCs, and decent general browsing/workstation ones. But don't expect to be running recent titles that well, because it'll bottleneck any good modern GPU. Old Dell Optiplex's and HP Pavilions with them can be found for around $50 on eBay (if you can get them before they sell), and sometimes they appear in thrift stores.

There's an abundance of old i3-2120 and similar CPU powered office PCs from almost a decade ago floating around for cheap. That's why I mentioned that specific CPU. There are 3.2 GHz and 3.0 GHz dual core i3s from that time that are all over the place as well, they're pretty much the same thing.

If that were the case then you’d never have instability problems with an OC’d CPU, you’d just have to keep it under the thermal threshold.

Yes, just overvolt your CPU by 30-40 percent and you are good to go. Trust me bro.

Instability comes from the biggest mistake overclockers make: only overclocking the CPU. You have to overclock the rest of the system, and it's relatively easy to take a 1997 Pentium II (300 MHz) and boost it to about 4 GHz with the proper overclocking and software.

I'm of the opine that you should Underclock and lower the voltage of all hardware to increase lifepsan, and improve thermals/efficiency. Also install the biggest noisest fans. No silent passive cooling allowed!

What is with you fags spamming images of James next to a girl? This is the third thread up with this shit right now.

I think he's trying to spam the board full of AVGN with girl pictures by asking legitimate questions, just ignore it, the poor tard obviously has a lot of problems and will soon get tired of it.

What era of PC's? Mid to late 90's Windows PC's? Sure. I use to unlock and overclock my CPU's all the time. The Althon XP's were pretty good for this if you had the right cooling.

I think what you're looking for is an emulator, buddy. That or the best computer compatible with what you're running. Overclocking nets you about 20% at BEST outside of some freak scenarios and that's rarely the difference from a game sucking to rocking.
