Expansion Kit > GX

Track builder puts all the Gamecube and Arcade courses to shame.

yes
it is now emulatable with everdrive, 64drive, or project64 on pc

Get disk images if you emulate, cartridge ports if you use a flashcart. English translation is available for both.

>it saves records, drivers, and cup data but not vehicles or tracks
Is there an extra step I have to do or something? Seems the ED64 Plus and emulator don't care to keep the data. Is it because of the Disk Drive had some kind of proprietary shit that they just can't emulate?

Reset the console insted of turning it off.

I did and it still only keeps the records and progress. Takes about ten minutes to save as well.

Probably not supported by your flashcart then. I have Everdrive 64 v3 (the older one) and the reset button does the trick. Tracks and vehicles are written directly into the game file as opposed to SRAM, so the flashcart OS has to overwrite the original game file after playing.

>> No.6938037

>>6937985
Figured it out. I just needed to put Alt64 on it. Hopefully that won't break compatibility with my other N64 games, but that can easily be fixed with just having another SD card with the original OS.

I wish I could win the lottery so I could buy an N64DD and get this cool stuff.

There's a thing called a search engine. I think one damn search and you can see this is perfectly playable on an emulator, along with the rest of the DD games.

Is it true flash carts damage your system

>> No.6939987

>>6939960
Depends. Sometimes the voltages are off. Many early NES flash carts use 3.3v EEPROM chips in a 5v system. The undervolting can (potentially) cause damage in the longrun. Personally i used an early 2013 Everdrive for years, and one of my RAM chips in my toaster NES finally failed a couple months ago. Was it the flash cart slowly causing damage? Coulda been. I'll never know for sure....

is this game actually good compared to the original F-Zero on SNES? Mario Kart 64 looked like total shit

>>6940324
Yes it was. Much faster. 30 simultaneous racers. Attack moves. Killer music. Smooth 60FPS on N64. X is absoutely awesome, different than GX and SNES, and i think they all hold up in their own way.

I'm amazed that they doubled down on the silly "dude it's an X!" style race tracks rather than using that space for more interesting track designs. I already thought it was silly enough how they stuck a hand into one of the main original tracks.

GX was developed by Sega.

>> No.6940803

>>6940638
The main issue is that 5v rated chips were commonly used in the 80s and early 90s and that modern chips are rated for 3.3v. This difference could (in theory) damage old machines. For NES, the new Everdrives are fine to use, the older ones and the PowerPak could be potentially hazardous. I don't know about other systems or carts.

>> No.6940814

>>6940731
This, F-Zero was saved by Sega. It was Nintendo releasing three GBA duds that killed it, and in their shame refused to work with Nagoshi again on a new title. Nagoshi has moved onto a more prominent franchise. Nintendo's attempts at touching the franchise since have only served to embarrass fans of the series since.

I have never liked Mario Kart 64 all that much either. I loved the SNES one as a kid and then the N64 one seemed pointless to me. Why extend a partial-3D-graphics-gimmick game with a sequel on a console supporting full 3D? The game is fine and all but I didn't love it.

F-Zero X and GX, on the other hand, are both awesome. They transcend the loss of the partial-3D gimmick with their speed and depth and fun. That is, they are good enough to stand completely alone - so of course they work as sequels too.

The graphics in X are simple but not ugly, and the smoothness and speed their simplicity allows is worth the loss in graphical fidelity.

Yeah. The NESdev dudes bothered Krizz about it so he put in proper resistors ...or something. i'm a dev not an EE, so that's about all i understand.

>> No.6943448

>>6940726
That is nice, but I don't think it's too much to ask that the professional game devs put something other than gimmicky finger tracing track designs into their official slots. The fact that they did that not just once but 4 more times is why GX is ultimately still the better game.

He has just released a translation for some JP-only golf game on N64. Maybe he just changed priorities. He pretty much has a monopoly on N64 translations anyway.
