Thinking about the future of gaming retro style.
I'm going to put a theory out and you all can tell me if its already going down or just what you think of it.

I look at a game like earthbound for the SNES. What i never liked about it was the battle look.
I believe programs will become made which can very easily manipulate retro style video games.

Programs that can easily turn the look of earthbounds fight screen and have it look like final fantasy 3(snes) fight screen.

Earthbound was 1 example.

inb4 but but my earthbound.
it was one example of what i hope programs will be able to do in the future for retro games.

...you mean like romhacks?

cool story bro

>> No.693631

Old games are a clusterfuck of hacks and spaghetti code, good luck with that.

im talking about actual programs which can do it with ease in the future.
not people who do romhacks now which can take forever.

take a look at this nerd.jpg

i know geordi laforge and data would have been up to the task.
i guess you are like that one person in voyager who stayed in the bottom deck the entire time until they got home being a huge tool to everyone.

this guy sounds like some kind of 4chan bot

If you are very interested in the tools and methods used to create old videogames, understand how to change the ROM on a level beyond inserting sprites and moving premade elements around, and want to do it all yourself for your own benefit, then it's definitely possible. But I doubt more than a handful of people care enough to do all the required work, and then somehow put a comprehensible GUI on top of it all, making sure it's compatible with every game. And that's just for SNES.

Tl;dr it's possible in the sense that it's possible to make a card castle taller than your own house.

since your on /vr/ at this time of the day. I'm guessing you are not busy.
Any suggestions on how to do this. I'm not looking for a step by step.
just think of replying to me the way you would some chum at a party your stuck at.

So what you're wanting is a program that will be able to scan old games written in whatever language and transform things you dislike about it into things you do like?

I can dig it. I'll help you get started

void makeWhatIDintLikeIntoSomethingILike(thingidontlike thing)
{
//insert your code here
}

You'll have to define a custom class for things you don't like though, but at least it's a start. Good luck, anon-kun :)

IF they'd be up to the task why aren't they on the Voyager?

I think we're on to something here

that is it. I imagine technology will progress will doing such a thing will be extremely easy.
I'm guessing it won't happen until tech is advanced enough that it could do it all by itself without doing any actual manual coding from one self.

"computer, this earthbound game is some horseshit. Here are some changes i would like implemented".

What makes you think they can romhack if they can't even get on the Voyager?

>> No.693735

considering how dull VR has become recently. I'm not surprised this topic is getting so much traffic.
