The ZX Spectrum port of Metal Gear was much more faithful to the original than the mangled port the NES got. This was true of most Speccy ports, especially the Arcade ones, where the NES would get butchered versions that were practically a different game. (Some say this was a strength as the games were "tailor made" to the NES lmao)

Without making any judgements on the Spectrum, it is a bit weird and annoying how NES arcade ports usually always had content removed/changed/added and they couldn't seem to just do a dang straight port of the games most of the time. Mostly. Bad Dudes I guess was pretty much unchanged outside no 2 player co-op mode and maybe Bubble Bobble?

Video game developers have long recognized that the greatest consoles of all times are the NES and SNES, which were not the most graphically advanced or acclaimed or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. I myself rank the highly controversial Commodore 64 over consoles that were highly popular in households around Europe. Gamers are still blinded by good graphics. ZX spectrum had better graphics than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore it must have been the greatest. Music enthusiasts grow up listening to a lot of music of the past, film enthusiasts grow up watching a lot of films of the past. Gamers are often totally ignorant of the video games of the past, they barely know gameplay mechanics. No wonder they will think that the ZX Spectrum is anything worthy of being played.
