However as I said, James doesn't so any work on AVGN since the Earthbound episode, the last before the partnership and partial sale of AVGN to Screwnwave. He literally just shows up and says lines now, that isn't even his gameplay footage anymore so he wouldn't know if it was played on emulator or not nor would he give a shit

Funny how many people don't know this. Screenwave did a Q&A panel at MAGfest last year where they explained all this. They built the new studio to accomodate James because he didn't want them intruding in his house to film anymore. They write all the episodes so he can spend time with his kids. They talk about how everything they do is to take up as little of James time as possible so all he has to do is come to the studio, say his lines and go home. He doesn't want to do AVGN, his passion was gone a long time ago, he wanted to retire the character after the movie and had to come back when the movie flopped. This deal convicned him to continue and Screenwave does it so they can squeeze income out of the brand. That is also why so many of those fags are all over the channel now.

I can believe that Screenwave guys do most of the work, but I don't think James lost his passion or doesn't care about AVGN anymore. I think in his Mega Man DOS episode, he explained that sometimes it's OK to take a break, but it's nice to come back too. He doesn't like the idea of AVGN disappearing. You can also tell that every time he mentions AVGN he's enthusiastic about it, rather than "uggh..." as you'd expect from other creators that don't like their most popular thing, James seems to like his own creation enough.
One of the recent episodes was also definitely a passion project for James, I think it was The Immortal video? It was all done in 1 shot, and directed by James himself. If it was up to Ryan, he probably wouldn't have liked to spend so much effort and budget into a project like that and instead would prefer to do something easier that could be manipulated in posrpro, but James is still the one who decides, at the end of the day. He's the star, after all.
As much as I don't like the Screenwave guys, at least they served to put Mike in his place, and he's visibly angry about it, so that's a positive IMO.

Oh also yes, Immortal and one other recent one were James. Basically if you see the attempt at cinematic type shit that is usually James. But by and large they do them all and no, he doesn't care anymore, he just shows up and films. Even in their RLM rip off content like Rental Reviews he just stands there and politely nods. They even talked about using a stunt arm for James in that Jurassic Park knock off game episode so he wouldn't have to film those parts.

Now if its movie centric content like his recent Kill Bill recut video, that is 100% James doing something he loves and it shows.

I wouldn't say that, as I said, James doesn't hate the AVGN, he endorses "classic" stuff and nostalgia, and at this point, the Nerd is a classic, and he loves that. He always says how new movies should use the original music themes more and he hates that reboots of old franchises don't use the original IP's music anymore. Notice how AVGN always uses the iconic theme, they even brought back footage of Kyle, after all that time where he -and Bootsy- disappeared from Cinemassacre, Bootsy is still never seen again, but Kyle footage is still shown here and there, likely because James wanted it, because he considers Kyle and the AVGN theme song iconic and vital to the franchise, and he would never want to change the theme, it'd be against his ideals as a movie/media nerd.
What I think is that James would prefer to do less Nerd videos, maybe make 1 video every once in a while, like Immortal, but what gives Cinemassacre the most profit is AVGN, so yeah I can see how they need to keep releasing AVGN videos, and I can see most of them being more Screenwave than James, but I do not believe that James "doesn't care". Again, watch the Mega Man DOS episode, I think that episode explains how James feels about AVGN perfectly.
Also, James do likes video games. Maybe not as much as movies, but he still gets excited when he plays some games, mostly retro stuff. He made the Earthbound episode because he actually liked the game. Also I remember last year or so, J&MM did Link's Awakening, and it was because James was playing it for the first time, and he was loving it, so he decided to do the episodes, it wasn't Mike's suggestion.

The best thing about that video is that it shows Bugs Bunny (Mike) usurping the Nerd's place. It's almost like James was referencing when Mike tried to "take over" the Cinemassacre channel when he was busy doing the movie.
The Nerd beating the shit out of Bugs (Mike) and taking his place back is symbolic.
