How are you like the new /vr/ so far? This is a thread to discuss the current state of the board and for our resident 6th gen defender to post his dogs. You're also welcome to post your dogs and talk about videogames with dogs.

It's shit. I just came back today to see what it was like and its a fucking shit hole. Luckily I found a decent forum (which also has a bunch of refugees from /vr/) and will be there from now on.

It's not about "the bantz" it's that anything besides "bantz" is totally ignored or degenerated. If I want to just go "lol suck a dick and give a nigger a rimjob" then I'd go to /v/.

>> No.6914224

It's really shit, the first week was unbearable but that's easily fixed by ignoring the board for that time.
The userbase that we got is shit, not all of them but there's a good chunk that are clearly tourists that didn't frequent 4chan for very long and shit on the board culture. Most of these disgusting idiots will hopefully leave overtime.
I've found quite a few threads where people discussed Gen6 stuff without any shitflinging, reminded me of a couple /vr/ threads.
I'll give it a few more weeks, at some point nobody will give a shit anymore about off topic shit like TF2 threads, heck at some point I'd imagine that we can have an actual TF2 thread where people actually discuss the beta and release window of TF2. That'd be okay.

It's bad, the first few days were at least funny with the amount of troll threads, but now it's just bad 6th gen discussion about bad 6th gen games.

It's funny that the rule change and the new users is good because "it was just the same threads being made" but all they do is make shitposting threads about an obscure foreign computer because (likely) some guy on youtube or twitter or something made some joke about it.

They're not even discussions, that's the problem. It's mostly just shitposting and making the same 80 threads per minute with very little actual content to them. Even the "retro" threads got kinda like that.

It's not the fact that they're 6th gen games. Most threads about older stuff also suffer from this, so of course they're not really any different now. The board just became a shitposting cesspool overnight.

I'm not. It has become /v2.0/ as I expected. I was looking forward to actual discussion about the PS2 early 2000s PC games but all I got was a flood of /v/-tier low quality threads and other forced memes.

You guys want to see some real autism - check the toy thread up right now. A single guy has been shitting it up and spamming since this past Sunday with only 6 hour breaks every day between his posts. This dude has literally spent 4 days sitting on his computer and shitting up a single thread nonstop, only pausing to sleep.

If they want to talk about UK microcomputers then I wish that they'd talk about the Amstrad CPC which is a far more capable computer, and sometimes even can be compared to the C64 (though not in terms of sound, but that could be said about even later computers since the SID chip is astounding).

The topics are inoffensive by themselves, but as >>6914189 said, there are just too many of them. 4ch isn't a stone tablet. We don't etch our threads in stone and then see them last forever. No, 4ch is a river, and the threads only survive for as long as they can keep swimming upstream. It used to be that /vr/ had very long threads. I don't know what happened that made the 1-2 month long threads die, but that was the first loss. Much bigger, however, is that the current thread pace is much too fast. We used to have smaller niche threads last for several days. It was the perfect speed for the user base of /vr/, because it is predominantly older players that have more life responsibilities, and can't reasonably spend all day carefully monitoring their threads. Now, however, we are lucky to see a niche thread last for a few hours. They just get pushed off, due to how many more younger gamers there are on this site (due to its attraction of generally younger people) and the board just goes too fast for the less popular topics to last long enough to be worthwhile. There are just too many new threads being made, and it isn't reasonable to spend all day babysitting a thread. Or worse, the ones which survive are those of low quality that simply attract clickbait and shitpost responses. That does nothing but drag down a board's quality even further.

Given how the /vr/ change happened literally a week after four fucking niche vidya boards were created for seeminglu no reason, it's a real insult to our board that we were not given a /v2k/ in which to funnel the 6thgen people. Like really, we needed a board exclusively for mobile games or for strategy games, but not for a generation of games that people have very obviously been wanting to talk about actively? What is with this inconsistent performance?

I still want the old /vr/ back. I don't want shit excuses, I want a new board for the kiddies and a fucking goddamn admission that mods were fucking wrong.

I'm okay with 6th gen being allowed here even though I was against it initially. I thought tough shit, things might sort themselves out in a week or two and /vr/ will be back to normal but you can talk about the gamecube now. Sadly that's not the case as shitposting here is at an all-time high and quality discussions are harder to come across. It feels like /v/-lite, and judging by what happened in >>6914315 its very clear a lot of users came in here from /v/ either to purposefully shit up the board or not follow the fucking rule of "lurk moar". This problem could be fixed with actual goddamn mods that do their jobs.

That's pretty standard across the internet throughout its history. This site is the exception, not the rule, to internet discourse.

Part of the beauty of the olde net was its separation. There were so many more websites that were completely separate. You could go to one and be a member and it wasnt like everybody on every other website could see what you were posting by looking up your name on their side. It's now like that in a sense, where you see that websites like Reddit are now comparable to a million separate websites now together. You used to be separate, the other users of a different site wouldn't even know that you exist. That's not so in the current system.

The concept of alt accounts came about in that world; you had so many different sides of a person that now had to share one website (find the person who speaks to their mother the same way they speak to a friend, or the same to their boss as to a total stranger, and you'll find the exception to the reason that separate accounts exist). I don't think it was avoidable though, websites have worked toward grouping together for years. Webrings were like an intermediate step between then and now. Congregation sites like ebaumsworld won out over standalone sites, and you don't get the separation.

I still think there should be TWO Retro gaming boards, one for pre-2000 games and consoles (like old /vr/) and one for post 2000 games like the new spectrum we're approaching.
I'm not against having a post 2000 board, just against of mixing the two into one. If we keep /vr/ the way it is now it's just going to become /v/ 2.0
