Have any of you ever beaten the Genesis Ecco games? I struggle to beat 1 but 2 is a breeze.

Only played the first game, this stage was brutal.
It's just random shit flying at you from every part of the screen, and if you don't beat the final boss on your first try, have fun going back to the previous stage.
Took me several days to beat that stage

played them nonstop as a kid
even have the debug code from 1 burned into my brain
you should give Ecco Jr a try
it's a very similar if not simpler experience
plus you get to be a baby orca if you want

I find Tubes of Medusa more annoying than anything other than the machine in Ecco 1 but yeah overall 2 is easier. Even then the first game isn't super hard outside of a few bits and is mostly just about learning to be calm under pressure.

I've beat both multiple times and they're some of my favorite games. Ecco was actually the main reason I got a Genesis in the first place.

By the way, what parts in 1 are you struggling with? I might be able to help. The Machine sucks but is just memorization, asterite fight is hard but doable. This jump is a real pain but there's actually a secret passage that let's you get around it if it's too tough.

Ecco really does have one of the best cheat menus of all time. I spent so much time messing around with changing the music tempo.

i just remember learning years later that if you level select you can't get the asterites orb or that he won't talk to you
but you can just skip to the next level and continue from there
but all the levels are jumbled up and out of order
>>6900406
i would use the x/y teleporter for this
actually figured out axis for that one

mega late reply but it's the fact there's no inv. frames that's the hard part, especially against that stupid seahorse.
>>6900292
ecco jr. is kinda weird but the baby orca is the best part of it.

i also forgot to mention i have beaten 1 i just don't like it as much
eventually i'll git good at 2 to beat it deathless instead of 3 deaths at best to start speedrunning it, fuck the first vortex future stage's zigzag nonsense.

This game looks like shit no matter what display or shader you use.
>dithery mess with integer scaling or RGB shaders
>shimmery as fuck with composite/Royale

Only maybe because of the extra levels but the soundtrack is so much worse in the CD version.

This.

Spencer's soundtrack is peak sono, but the Genesis original is good too. Good thing you can just make your own custom soundtrack on Sonic CD anyway, if you want, you can replace all the Spencer tracks with the Genesis OST. Personally, I prefer to mix them up (Welcome To The Machine is definitely more effective on Sega CD's version, though)
