FreeMcBoot on a memory card, a flash drive for installing OPL, and preferably a SATA hard disk drive and a dummy SATA-compatible network adapter with no actual network capabilities to be able to insert the drive into a fat PS2. And a way to be able to connect the HDD to your PC to format and put your shit onto it.

You could cut some money off by using a USB loading method via a burned DVD-R and the right iso or, if you've got the technical know-how, hardmodding an actual network adapter to be SATA compatible with the kits out there and then loading a game over network connection (both HDD and network beat out USB loading). But generally this is more complicated than the standard setup.

It's not that difficult, you just gotta spend a little over the price of a triple-A game altogether.

this game could've been great if it wasn't for the clunky camera and platforming.
The art and music almost makes up for it though, I like the cell shaded look and all the character designs.

You need to play Revenge of the Sith.
The main story is Obi wan and Anacin on both sides, but then more side game / missions (its a different menu outside the main game), lets you play little segments during the main game, like Yoda killing clones in the Temple. A magna guard killing waves of clones, and you can play whats basically a fighting game in multiplayer.
You can eventually unlock old Obi Wan and Vader.

Its a lot of fun even if you're not a huge fan of the movie

Anon probably meant it is more of a hassle, as it requires an additional computer to be on the entire time whilst trying to set up the FTP and play your PS2 ISOs. I would say that using a sort of SBC or Raspberry Pi-type device should be recommended for using SMB for the Slim.

You're just fucking yourself over if you don't play off backups with OPL. The slim can't run games off a HDD so you're stuck with the network method which is slower and introduces problems in some games. It's objectively inferior and you can just check youtube for comparisons between hdd, disk and network.

You really want to play games off backups too, even if you're peak, balding collectorfag. Loading times are faster, you spare the disk and the laser is usually the first thing to break on a ps2. Plus, you have the entire ps2 library preinstalled, ready to play on original hardware.

When playing "WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW" I realised how shitty the the Yuke's games had become and stopped buying their or other western games of the genre completely. So I decided to catch up on the japanese wrestling games that came before and the at the time recent ones on the PS2. And boy was this stuff way better than the stale western wrestling games and especially the Yuke's garbage.

So I played a lot of PS1, GBA, DC and of course PS2 wrestling games. The PS1 had some really awesome games with the early Yuke's titles (Toukon Retsuden 1-3) or titles from other devs like Zen Nihon Joshi Puroresu: Joou Densetsu: Yume no Taikousen and of course Fire Pro Wrestling G. But the best game on this system was of course Zen-Nihon Pro Wrestling: Ouja no Kon (aka AJPW: King's Soul), which IMO is the best wrestling game up until the 5th era. BTW. most of the japanese PS1 wrestling games I played on a modded PS2.

On the GBA only the two Fire Pro Titles are noteworthy. I preferred the first one, where you actually had to work matches.

The Dreamcast also had an awesome lineup of wrestling games with Fire Pro Wrestling D, Giant Gram 2 and Giant Gram 2000. Toukon Retsuden 4 already showed that Yuke's time was over.

But IMO the best console for wrestling games was the PS2. I had lot's of fun with Fire Pro Wrestling Returns, but also the three Square Enix games with All Star Pro Wrestling III being by far the best looking and animated Wrestling game (even to date) but this game lacked in the gameplay department. By far the best titles on the PS2 were the King of Colosseum games KoC Red/Green and especially KoC II, which to this day IMO is the best wrestling game. And again the Yuke's games (Wrestle Kingdom 1+2, which used the Day of Reckoning engine) were mediocre at best.

Too bad that in the next generation the genre pretty much died completely with only the shitty Yuke's WWE games left. Fire Pro Wrestling World is the only wrestling game worth playing since the 6th era ended

>Everyone knows about it. And no one takes that dud seriously
As the board has had its horizons expanded, the PSX is now a retro console and the Playstation or PS1 for short can no longer be called the PSX. There are fewer and fewer reasons to mistakenly call the PS1 and PSX other than a weirdly grudge-fueled spite at people who acknowledge there exists something else called a PSX.

The only response to this will be mental gymnastics.

the meaning of PSX was already well cemented by the time the PS2-based DVR which only came out in japan which nobody owns or talks about came along
there's little risk of confusion when someone says PSX
it's also not a mistake, PSX is the systems official codename, and it's referred to as such in all internal documentation of the system (all that we have, anyway), PS1 is less correct in this sense, i don't know if sony has ever used the term "PS1" (closest would be PSOne, for the remodelled, smaller PSX)

I don't think it's a zoomer problem. Less and less people refer to it by PSX by the year. It's become a very unpopular name for it and especially with /vr/ now covering the generation the actual PSX was released in, makes it even more confusing to refer to the PS1 as a nickname which becomes more and more obscure with the times. Well, that's true for the current wrestling games (or is it just "game", since there isn't any competition anymore?). Those annual updates of year old games aren't worth a single dime and especially the WWE games you would've to pay me money to actually play them. But you can say the same about essentially any current sport title btw.

But this was a different era and these japanese games had a very different style compared to most western (dudebro)-games. So currently, I haven't played a (western) wrestling game in over 15 years now. Last one indeed was "WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW" from 2004.

It can't be updated, anon. That's a problem with games themself.
You can force 480p, but game-engine may glitch and not work like it should. It may be a straight black-screen, or may be freeze soon after start, or may be pixelated look like only 1 set of "fields" are rendered.
>Is SCART RGB on a CRT/PVM the best way to play the PS2
Any CRT will do justice to PS2, choice between RGB and YPbPr should be dictated by your setup. If you have some old RGB-only consoles then switching will be a pain.
About video-quality: they are absolutely identical.
>if not whats the best way or devices to de interlace the system?
The only other non-pleb and realistic solution is OSSC.

Actually with OSSC you can bring out a more crisp picture from 480i than from 480p. All that's needed are to google list with optimal timings and setup sampling phase right. With 480p you can't do it and games looks more blurry that with 480i.
For deinterlacing there's also GBS-Control, but then you loose ability to fine tune samplerate to 512x224 res.
Don't listen about "bad flickery OSSC", that talk hugely exaggerated.

OPL has a general list here
https://www.ps2-home.com/forum/page/opl-game-compatibility-list-1
this gives you an idea of games that absolutely need a mode for proper functionality.

Otherwise if your drive is just really shitty, you may need to rely on mode 1+2. I personally did a test on an FMV, comparing a chink sata adapter with the official PS2 IDE adapter and found:
>chink sata would have audio stutter unless mode 2 was enabled

Just download the list, it generally comes with good defaults. I wouldn't enable them unless the game glitches in a FMV or something tho, you'd be getting longer load screens for no reason.

By the way, that's what they do:
>1 Accurate Reads HDD, SMB, USB
>Limit transfer rates to 2800KB/s, in blocks of 8. Callbacks will take place 5ms after completion of each command. / Closely emulates the transfer rate of the CD/DVD drive in 8-sector blocks, required by buggy games that glitch when exposed to the higher transfer rates and the synchronous nature of HDD mode. Callback Timer has been merged to MODE-1.
>2 Synchronous Reads HDD, SMB, USB
>Reading is done immediately when the request is made, rather than letting the calling thread return. / It makes OPL read data synchronously (read immediately upon receiving the request) instead of asynchronously (in the background). Some games work better with this setting, for one reason or another. -- TIP: usually fixes odd issues like audio or video glitches.

The answer is: mismatch of pixels size.
PS2's games use 512x448 resolution and your TV expands them to 640x480 and upscales for boot.
Also, there's no phase correction.

With OSSC you can fine tune signal and get perfect size for 512x448 res and correct phase.

This version is MUCH better. Most of the graphic issues are gone but there are some minor ones remaining. Bob-omb explosions aren't rendered correctly and there some rather odd interlacing issue occuring. Not sure how to explain it. I'm probably alone on this but I actually liked this game.
It's not a great game. But it's not bad. It had a nice story and good voice acting which made it feel like playing an episode of the anime.

Most people complained the controls were crappy and they take some time and practice getting used to since it's like a mix between an fps and a platformer.
It took me a long time to realize that climbing by jumping between walls required pressing the jump button a lot earlier, before even touching the wall. But once I started learning the timing, it actually became pretty fun.

The hacking minigame was pretty bad though. And the enemy-AI was terrible.

I like tie-in games that succeed at this. Obviously being a great game would be neat too but just feeling like I'm playing an episode of the show, when I like the source material, can make an otherwise mediocre game like Star Trek: A Final Unity or Evangelion N64 trasndencent.
