You could really do with condensing down the length of your reviews. No one is going to read four chunky paragraphs about how you prefer your testicles fondled, followed up with a scattered review that looks like it was written by a student trying to inflate their essay's word count.
You actually do a decent job at explaining your thoughts with your Ninja Kiwi Archive review, so I'd suggest you'd write your future reviews in a similar kind of way.

i'm one of those people for whom doom is centrally about interesting fights, everything else secondary. This map 32 (and most of eviternity, but especially this map) just felt to me like "okay i picked my architecture, now let me sprinkle in some enemies".

map32 and iirc map19 (whatever the other long map was) were the only levels of eviternity i didn't single segment... just long slogs...

I am currently working on a mod that might or might not become a TC. I made a Lawgiver weapon mod some time ago, but never had the drive to actually make maps for it. Since I got stuck on another mapping project, I thought I might start here. Currently it's just one tiny map to
introduce the concept.
You're a street judge sent to respond to different kinds of calls. Zoom and Reload change the firemode of the Lawgiver. Fist is replaced by a kick. Alt fire is the judge shout that can frighten enemies.
I would like some feedback on the general concept and if the kind of map presented here (style-wise, obviously in a more expanded and complex way than just three tiny rooms) is something people would like to see more of.
The idea is that every level is basically a puzzle the judge has to solve with the tools at hand, because there are no ammo pickups for the lawgiver. I am also considering adding stuff like hostages or evidence collection. The great thing about the Dredd world is that I can add all
kinds of different characters and monsters from all kinds of different sources because Megacity One is that wacky.
Again, I want to mention that the level presented here is merely a demo I quickly threw together. Actual levels would be more complex (stuff like block wars or shopping malls or hostage situations at a museum for example). Suggestions for sets and situations are appreciated.
Please tell me what you think. This mod was tested on GZD 4.4.2.

This allows variants such as female zombies with plasma rifles, headless zombies, skullfaced dudes with super shotguns or even scientists with axes and fire extinguishers
Anything to fit that possesse/zombie with object role
2016's posssessed soldiers come off as mutated flesh beings with flesh merging it with their super sci-fi armor and a non descript pew pew fun
They feel less "versatile" compared to the green haired corrupted dude with a rifle and his bald buddies
It's fun to make fun of Sonic OC's for being laughable but if a series can spawn a type of content that almost fills a specific niche tied to itself, it might as well be a plus

Doom 3 at least seemed a bit honest it was a reboot (besides adding a 3 to the name which lead to a funny and stupid logo because of the tiny 3 at the end of "doom")
But the new games seem to rewrite the setting even more
I guess the hype over them (besides being a breath of fresh air compared to other games at the time and it being a canonization of a version of Doom people made up) has to do with how it was expected to be a disaster before it game out
People went from shitting on Doomguy's new look to thinking having a face in Eternal is weird
Might also be because of the cancelled "Call of Doom" but erasing the visual distinction Doom used to have from Halo and WoW isn't that great, even if only slightly better than the canned Doom 4

Making the demons aliens completely changes everything. Even being "inter-dimensional" you can still imagine a physical place, a biology or home worlds etc. Them being actual demons, from Hell makes them "ethereal" or intangible. Something unexplainable. Not just from a parallel universe but a different plain of existence, opposite of God and Heaven.

Even in D&D and fantasy games "demons" are just monsters or in capeshit "gods"are just dudes in spandex with really high stats.

Exactly. Some fucking moron thought it would be a good idea to make a texture pack that replaces all the Thief 1 textures with their Thief 2 equivalents, or the closest ones they "felt" were a good replacement.

It fucking ruins the aesthetic of all the missions as most of the Thief 2 textures were de-saturated since they added colored lighting into the engine between games. I guess they felt between games why bake in the colors when the lighting can do it for us? They look fucking horrible and lifeless in thief 1 which wasn't designed for them. And people fall for it all the time because "well duhhh it's the newer game so they must be more hd!!!"

Yes I'm this fucking mad about what texture packs people play with. Nothing pisses me off more than the HD mod though, look at this horseshit.

Also, I noticed that my audio recording settings keep resetting themselves, hence the bad quality in the last videos. But now, even if I manually correct them, the audio becomes extremely crackly after a random amount of time, ruining the entire recording. I lost more than 40 minutes of footage because of that. Final Doomer has been among my favorite weapon replacers ever since it came out.
>multiple arsenals with focused themes based on famous level packs
>weapons that work in simple ways, are intuitive and fairly unique, and mostly don't overlap in ideas with other sets
>good spritework, loud firing sounds, highly satisfying melee for almost every class
>takes most players using always-run into account, normal walking speed is made slower to easily traverse over catwalks
>Slot 6 and 7 don't share ammo by default so players don't feel the need to prioritize only one, can be turned off if too OP
>neat pistols with infinite ammo so they don't get superseded by slot 4 guns, have reload functions to balance this out, both of which can also be turned off
>funny little flavor text pops up if you have the GZD defauly reload key bound
>bunch of QoL options for personal preference

Here I was thinking I was going to buy myself something nice like an e-reader with my freelance money, but I better save that shit just in case this becomes Mad Maximiliano or my PC breaks down.

Its not even that much per month but its more than the $200 quota they put on people. Jesus.

Can't have shit in MAP 13 Downtown I guess.

But enough of that shit. What the fuck is wrong with Doom Retro not having proper 16:9 support? it does have this halfway implementation that stretches the screen but leaves black bars but its not 4:3 so I dunno what the fuck it is.

>starts mutated!
>1st part of the map has asshole gunners doing what they do best
>berserker traps followed by troops and enforcers with impossible reaction
>Weapon and ammo drops out of enemies, which fucks you over because the biggest troll that the map has is the gunners dropping grenades when you kill them, which automatically replaces your weapon and it kills you.
>it turns out is a well designed map because the 3 above has what Vanilla Q2 doesnt have

also im impressed seeing how well the ruskie texture pack blends well with the lightmaps

Man, Golden Souls 2 is good fun and has a lot going for it but I can't help but think that the encounter design is pretty fucking weak. The large open areas in a lot of maps combined with the plethora of weapons accurate at long range just makes me go into shooting gallery mode way too often.

Some anon recommended to me Mysung Kite months ago, and it's the one I use 99% of the time. If I'm playing OG Doom, I use the SC-55 music packs (they automatically play when using Chocolate/Crispy anyway). Some wads recommend a specific soundfont; for example, Valiant recommends Arachno to along with it, and Back to Saturn X recommend SC-55. If I am playing the Doom 4 Vanilla mod, I like to play with the 8-bit NES soundfont. Those are pretty much the only exceptions. I have dozens that I test out and Mysung Kite just sounds better than the other most of the time. I haven't tested PC98 but I will next time I play

It's the same for most retro games, if they don't have a active modding community that's constantly being supported we rarely talk about them, there isn't that much to talk about, other than:
>"remember that other retro fps"
>>"yeah, it was cool, that one level was bitch"
>"play any good wads lately"

honestly this whole general could be renamed /fpssourceports/ at this point. Sure we have an occasional blake stone or redneck rampage post here and there but 95% of the time we are talking about community content for a hand full of source ports for an even less amounts of games. Nothing wrong with this, I play a shitton of gz these days, but fuck, look how little we actually talk about duke and he's like a pillar of retro fps's

the old Q2 Custom maps doesn't fuck around in nightmare, and im still in the febuary 98 folder
its making me reconsider the old meme that Q2 enemies aren't good. its not a bait, its kinda true

Berserkers can really fuck you up in groups if you dont have a SSG, and said maps doesn't add them earlier on and you are limited to low ammo and blaster, and the old maps having tight corridors good for traps and perfect for fucking gunner grenade and sniping spam.

Also Guards SHINE, they were shit in Vanilla Q2, but since they are well positioned and most of them are smg and shotgunners, not the blaster guards...
It feels like im playing short doses of Hell revealed and memento mori. incarceration is literally a good but short space station map, its feels like a good AVP1 map with traps in it with the fucking parasites.

Thief originally had many 64x64 textures. 4 times is only 256x256. My general plan was to have the textures match the hand drawn mission briefings better, instead of trying to make them look real. Also so textures of statues or whatever taken from the real world would match the in-game lore instead.
I made a few that were 512x512, but mapped to cover twice the geometry as the original textures so they would look the same, and the UVs would line up with texture details, but repeat less. In case someone cut a hole in a brick wall or something, so the hole would still match the bricks...

when i did the upscaled pack for Q2's monsters i had to edit and upscale 2x, had to learn though trial and error how gigapixel and ai upscaling works.
low res textures for old games with chunky pixels has a 2x limit, Games like Q3A and UT has better detailed and higher res textures, therefore they are good to go.

in the end they still look normal, though i never cared to add more details to make it more like their PCX original input, which shines in software/hw mode.
the doom project had the luck of its dev having access to Nvidia Gameworks tools for AI upscaling.
fact, i had to remake the Iron Maiden's faces because i wanted them to look more distinct like the Q4 Maidens being Female Marines captured after Q2 landfall
Also i must thank calinou for his take on the Manga109 upscale, because the weapons look cleaner and it has more detail.

BTW, if someone is making upscales, they also need to keep an eye on the detail and the original model, so its still 1:1 accurate to the original texture, and it doesn't end up something ugly like the ancient Q1 texture packs which looks too clean.

AI upscaling is neat. I didn't have access to that 5 years ago or whatever, and it would kind of defeat the purpose of hand-drawing them to match somewhat consistently with the briefings.

Hell I'm as normie I can be. Wife, job, kid coming. Not any interesting and unique hobbies either. I just go the gym, jogging, listen metal and played old fps games I played as a kid.

Still I'm complete fag for Doom. First played Doom at late 90s. 1, 2, Masters Levels, TNT, Plutonia, all of them. Loved them so much, that I had search more about it on internet and quickly found the wads. Memento Moris were actually first ones I played, loved them, and began devouring more. I began to fucking with editing myself, and when Zdoom modding became thing, I started do shit with it and even took part in few community projects. Sadly I've abandoned modding, because I simply do not have time or energy for it anymore. But still going to play Doom and be part of it's communities till I'm dead.

The keen die action that triggers tag 666 isn't actually slot specific, so if your making it a dehacked patch all you would really have to do is replace the mancubus boss death action.

Is there a way to have a cluster come up after a level is done? I've seen it done in the original doom games and I tried to replicate it myself but it keeps coming up before a level instead.

That's not very nice. That's like 2nd-3rd grade? Kids often still write like shit at that point.

Eh. He's too rounded. That pic of romero highlights those features, but romero also has some sharpness to his face. The actor is pretty much just round.
But of he does a decent job in the role that's a fair bit more important.
They should pluck his eyebrows though to fit better.

Make a Doom 2 megawad, Romero. Come on. You need more hype for your other game.

Necroage pack I feel is a nice spin on Thief with different texture work, will never replace the og ones but the author did a good job on making them feel like they belong in the thief universe.

In many places elevating the level design form some of the wonkier low res originals.

I don't believe so, widescreen naturally gives a wider fov and it can go up to 24:9 aspect ratio.

I was ever a shooter guy, but I got the Doom itch a few weeks ago and holy fuck I am loving this. Thank you guys for the games, for the IWADs, for the tutorials... I'm a complete idiot, and if I'm able to play all these games is thanks to the resources posted here.

I see no problem with that, so long as that is a baseline for "acceptable", rather than "excellent"
