Beyond Oasis is basically Zelda mixed with a brawler so it fits pretty well.

Gunstar Heroes has the half circle forward and attack running charge thing. Megaman X-X2's Hadoken/Shoryuken. Top Hunter has a bunch of Fatal Fury moves hidden. Scrolling beatemups have much shared with actual fighter DNA so unsure if they count.

Respect though. Honestly so many command moves in this, some useful for getting around, some useful shit like freezebeams and temp shields, others just totally OP and worthwhile like Minion Special. Vigilante 8 also had this, usually weapon specific specials.

xmen game for snes. you can set it to "training mode" where you just press x instead of doing the combos, but then you can't play all the way lol

Command inputs in games need to make a comeback. Not only do they expand control possibilities on a limited controller, they add an extra layer of difficulty to the game.

Only game I can think of off the top of my head is SoTN

1080 snowboarding for tricks, the 1080 spin has a ridiculous input that I have not once pulled off.

They're stupid in fighting games and they're REALLY stupid in single player games

They also make combat more satisfying and engaging. Pressing singular buttons over and over again to fight gets boring after a while even if the enemy variety is good. It's even better when certain enemies are weak to specific special attacks so you have to puzzle out how you want to fight each encounter

Would the double jump in Revenge of Shinobi count as a command input? It requires more precise timing than 99% of other games with double jumps.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. 'Let's make the controls frustrating to add artificial difficulty!" You wanna do that to yourself? Play with the controller upside down or some shit.

Memorizing combos or command inputs to do simple tasks is exhausting and pointless.

Funny, I went over this with someone at school a long time ago. He was talking to some designer that worked at THQ and wanted a 3D action game with command inputs like a fighting game. The THQ guy said it was a bit hard to pull off in 3D. He looked confused because Ninja Gaiden pulled it off. Then I asked him if the directionals he pressed were towards the enemy. He gave a pause to think about it and then said a slow yes with a realization of what sort of command inputs he was doing.

Doing left, right, down, then an attack button just doesn't work in a 3D game without throwing your orientation off wildly unless you decide to have modified movement like tank controls. Then the game is stuck there with tank controls.

>artificial difficulty
>exhausting

doing a quarter-circle input then pressing a button or whatever is neither exhausting nor difficult, typing this shit out takes more effort. quit deluding yourself.

If you could lock on to enemies it might be able to work. At that point you are just playing tekken though

That's what makes these games some of the best shooters ever made.
