redpill me on this console.
I went in expecting to find a million of classic games but I only ended up liking devil may cry 1 and 3, and god hand.
All the sequels of my favorite franchises sucked major ass, and many of the so called hidden gems aren't gems at all. What gives? where are the millions of great games people promised me?

I think this is what hurts PS2 the most. Most of the good games on it are obsolete on the system since they got better versions.
Also I would strongly discourage OP from playing Viewtiful Joe on PS2. Dante is cool but not worth the overall performance downgrade. If anything, play it once you've already played the GC version just to check Dante out.

I wish I had a phat so I could do the hard drive hack thing. PS2 games aren't really that expensive but it's inconvenient for me to have like a hundred and a half of them loitering around the house when I might not even play them more than once. Plus I hear the hard drive hack lets you load PS1 games too so I can use it for both PS2 and PS1 instead of having to hack my PS1.

I'll give you one hidden gem that actually is a gem, Romancing Saga. It's untouched by the remaster problem people are having with justifying playing ps2 versions of good games.

It was not the strongest console but it was the best and therefore the most successful.
Yes, it had sub-par graphics but it played DVD.
Yes, it had a lot of crap games but equally many good ones.
Yes, it had a lot of malfunctioning but it had technical support until 2013.
Yes, it had the same controller design as the previous Playstation but it was because it was so damn good to begin with and set the standard for controller to date.
