here's some new ideas i came up with for the hack:

mario will have his odyssey physics, minus cappy. i'm really not feeling like cappy would fit.

luigi will basically be the same as super mario 64 DS, without the running on water thing.

i might add wario and/or waluigi as playable characters, but i don't know if there's enough space for it.

mario and luigi's voice lines will be replaced with newer ones, sourced from sunshine and 64 DS respectively.

the two unused levels that are not just test levels will be used as a bowser level and a haunted house level.

>>6860458
I came up with a boss idea for the hack based on the scrapped dry bones "mech" from smw. the "mech" would chase the player around a level like lethal lava land. the level would have three sort of main "tiers" in height. the mech would start with just its head poking out of the lava, and would chase the player (mech always staying in the lava) and occasionally attack at them. the player could jump from any height and would have to ground pound the head of the boss. after doing this, another "segment" (like one of the bodies in the image) would rise up, making the boss taller. it would now have more frequent and different styles of attack, and could only be attacked by jumping and groundpounding from the next height. this would repeat one more time where the player would have to jump from the highest parts of the level. maybe to cater to more experienced players, any phase of the boss could be attacked from any height if they fully utilize marios moveset.

sorry if that was a bit messy or retarded, was just an idea i had.

DKL3 was heavily based off the DKL2 engine, this has been known for a very long time. Checking the retail DKL3 ROM in a hex editor will reveal a whole bunch of strings and data from DKL2. A similar situation with DKC3 being a beefed up DKC2. Makes me wonder if the original plan was DKC and DKL both to have just one sequel and the third installment being a hasty but successful afterthought.
Not trying to be an asshole, just pointing that out.

yo I'm that dude that got screenshotted, hi /vr/

The game I think would be easiest to make an ezbuild is Dr. Mario 64, all you'd need is a Windows XP VM or real machine

Courtside 2 also builds on Windows, but I was unable to get the filesystem to rebuild, so I gave up after I got a ROM building

The rest of the games require the iQue SDK and Red Hat Linux 9, and if you want full N64 support rather than using the iQue library which can misbehave on N64 hardware, you have to rebuild the SDK from source code (that got leaked in May)

I haven't really done ezbuilds because of either laziness or just me thinking nobody would give a shit about basketball or a dr mario game from 2001

so uhh since it looks like people actually do want ezbuilds, I guess I'll hurry a bit up more on Dr. Mario, I've got most of the texture conversion systems working 100%

I was wrong about Mario kart, kimura.lzh is a older revision of the source code than final
For NBA Courtside 2, I think that would need a lot of work, particularly on the asset front.
As for Dr. Mario 64 most of the assets are in standard N64 SDK C code format(Excluding a ton of textures under the format of .gbi), so making a PC port of that would depend on if you could make a compatibility layer for both F3DEX2 and S2DEX2 microcodes, as the game uses 2D graphics a lot.

Unfortunately Dr. Mario used the N64 Soundtools, and didn't provide project files. So if you want to extract the sound and music data someone would have to reverse the format and make a exporter and importer

It didn't even get a Japanese release though, which Mario's Picross 2 did. The lack of Japanese release is what's perplexing.

Picross continued on the Super Famicom, with an early Satellaview release, Mario's Super Picross, and a bunch of digital volumes released via the Nintendo Power service.
The first volume happens to be Pokémon.
https://www.mariowiki.com/Picross_NP

The Picross series went dormant for a while, with nothing on the Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, but it re-emerged thanks to the whole "Touch Generations" line on the DS, as well as an international Wii Virtual Console release of Mario's Super Picross.
Jupiter have since been steadily making Picross games across the 3DS and Switch, many of which being licensed or themed.
There are already as many as six Picross games on the Switch eShop, with a Mega Drive and Mark III (Master System) Picross title announced.

Man there's some good shit in the gbc games, like the 3d Pool thing and numerous weird games totally made by demosceners. Magi-Nation having a sequel is crazy. I have no clue if Jibaku-kun Twelve World Story got released but it seems like a simplified Guardian Heroes kind of thing where you get a ball dude you can order to fight shit or just throw him at enemies like a god damned pokeball. Seemed rad for the 10 mins I gave it.

So many of the GB classic games got releases under different names/licenses, though it's great to see they planned to bring over some of the cooler jap only shit like ZAS and Angel Marlowe. I didn't recognise Doomsayer, which seems like an intriguing strat rpg. Golf Robot is a neat addition to the list of neat portable golf games, and KICK ATTACK is a fucking foosball table game by Nintendo themselves.

That does sound pretty good.
Assuming your ROM is a variation of the US rom, an IPS patch would be nice to have.

The smoke thing though, I have to wonder if the devs decided to leave it that way because they thought the glitched output actually looked better than the correct texture.

Although, what is the point removing the low-poly distance model? I guess it was not distinguishable at native resolution, but it's very noticeable playing at higher resolutions.

3. Majora's Mask (The chinese translation was not complete)

4. Ocarina of Time (Not been able to get USA working for some reason, need to check why)

5. Animal Forest (Not been able to get booting on real N64, likely a RTC meme)

Just a hunch, but if those were from a cvs, there's a chance that you didn't turn off line endings fix when extracting binaries, or extracted it in Windows. Bad things happen when you change LF to CRLF or the opposite. Doubly so if you downloaded pre-extracted files from someone who did it in Windows.
I know for certain that I found a download like that, I could tell because .bmp images were fucked, but I wasn't trying to build anything, so I just made sure to get the original cvs version too.

Nintendo has stated that they would never hire someone with Shiggy's credentials after the late 80's, and developing games was just different back then. Remember, because of how development for the Famicom was, he and Tensuke Tanaba had to hand-draw the levels for SMB 1, 2, Lost Levels, and 3 on graph paper to give to the programmers. He's also not just an ideas guy, he's the artist that drew all the drawings you'd see in the manuals for Mario until they switched to using 3D rendered stuff from 64 onwards.

So wait, so this potentially means that
A. The backstory of ALttP was already partially worked out by the time the original came out (the civil war/age of chaos that preceded Ganon's rise), and
B. Those mass graves in Zelda 2 several times the size of Zelda 1's Hyrule may not be Ganon's doing. The manual did state the rest of the world was in an 'Age of Chaos' at the time instead of stating it was 'destroyed by Ganon'. Combined with this interview, now there's a real possibility the original intent was Hyrule being wrecked by internal strife and only afterwards was there a Ganon invasion.
