This mission pack is excellent once you get past the shitty starting area. Does Quake 2 have any worthy fan made mission packs such as Arcane Dimensions equivalent for Quake 1?

Fuck, i remember something being released this summer, it was in the news at DOOM general. Can't find it though.

Is this the one with the annoying jumping donkey things? Or was that the other one?

everyone shits on Quake II but I loved the story line of a single surviving space marine fighting alone after his entire platoon was wiped out to save earth. The story was so comfy

There are lots of user maps that are quite good

HOW THE FUCK CAN I GET THE GOG VERSION OF QUAKE 2 TO RUN IN MY WINDOWS XP PC? FUCK.

It actually wasn't. The sci-fi theme of Quake 2 hadn't really been overdone at that point. In fact, aside from DOOM, there was almost nothing remotely similar.

Download yamagi quake 2 sourceport. All you need are the PAK files and music which can be found in the DOOM thread.

Half life was clearly influenced by Quake 2, it was a very influential game.

Why don't you guys try bots? Gladiator boys were the best I remember, but eraser bots had a front end. Multiplayer is the best approximation of quake 2 you can enjoy in 2020. OP, there used to be thousands of fan made levels, back in late 90s early 00s. Now many no longer exist. Same with skins

>> No.6859209

I have a disc full of pak files and other stuff, sadly from 02/03 rather than the earlier glory days. I'll upload some stuff tomorrow if this thread exists

I was hoping to get it working without a source port but I guess I'll take what I can get. I don't get the fucking issue because both Q1 and Q3 work just fine.

You could try installing from a disc.

Recently discovered that Q2 works on RetroArch on Android now with vitaQuake2 core. With two sticks controls out of the box. I've spent a lot if time playing Q1 custom maps this way with TyrQuake core.

And yes, Q2 Enemies works better when they are used right, mainly Gunners and Dogs

Quake 2 had amazing fan-made multiplayer maps, far superior than Quake 1's I think. The mods were better also.

Bump for this

>Pic related
A good expansion with more objective based gameplay, the level design is more hub like and not as linear. The lighting effects are amazing the best of the Quake 2's.

Is that software renderer? It looks so much better without the coloured lighting making everything yellow. Which is funny because hardware + dynamic lighting were its main innovations

Quake 2 yellow lights were mostly because of the outside light source using the Orange skybox as source, you can tweak it all you want.
also software mode is hardcoded with pcx textures

there are sourceports who fixes Q2 hardware lightning and filtering to use full hardware support mostly because carmack gimped it due to technical hardware limitations of its time so people or him may fix it in the future DF Retro made an entire video about it.
also modern Q2 source ports are dark and orange by default due to Q2 default brightness setting

Use Nearest filtering for sharp look, but is all about preference
Also im using the Q2 Neural Upscale pack https://github.com/Calinou/quake2-neural-upscale
with QuakeOne Osj(idk what the fuck is his name) upscaled textures https://www.mediafire.com/file/3587uk6qcwymdvk/osjcq2skins.zip/file
And for detail preference DuoMaxwell's Gigapixel textures https://www.moddb.com/games/quake-2/addons/quake-2-upscaled-pack

Yamagi sourceport default brightness is too dark. 75% or higher brightness makes a huge difference.
