Why didn't micro-switched dpads take off more? They're literally the best of both worlds.

Nature of the beast. More expensive to make too. Do they have cheap Chinese clones of these?

>> No.6856427

It's 4 little mouse clickers and a stick that pushes them in
They're not fucking expensive to make lmao

>> No.6856489

Did SNK copyright them or something?

No it's 4. Diagonals are done by hitting 2 plungers at the same time.
Are you retarded? Have you never taken a controller apart or something?

Anyone else here have a modded mini pad with micro switches and db15 connector?
It's pretty nice aside from a little more travel distance on the stick and the swapped button layout. I wouldn't call the layout better or worse, but it feels more like an SNES controller.
It's actually slightly heaver so it "feels" more premium.

>little more travel distance
It's a ton more before before and after the click. It's basically unusable. I don't understand why people are paying so much for these when even a standard dpad is better at that point.

I couldn't really tell the difference while playing Metal Slug. I think "a ton" is exaggerating a bit. I had a CD pad I bought off ebay that lasted me ~6months until the stick shit the bed; I just didn't want to take the risk of another 2nd hand pad.
If you know where to buy these new or refurbished that doesn't cost a ton I'd take a bite on another CD pad.
It's mostly my lazy controller for when I don't feel like using the stock AES stick.

The Vita has microswitches for all the buttons, and that makes it super awesome for precision fighting game controls. Sony had a prototype DS4 that had the same switches, I really wish they had gone with that instead of the rubber domes.

They're not microswitches though but yeah the vita dpad is excellent

I’ve been using the Xbox 360 versus controller for emulation for about a month, and I like it a lot. Was like $15 on Amazon.
That being said the rubber coating on the back was all fucked when I got it, but it came right off off with alcohol and scrubbing.

It's a standard configuration in pretty much all digital arcade sticks. Anyone who has an arcade stick can easily see this by just opening their unit up, since they're made to be serviceable. So you can replace all parts, change the type of restrictor gate or switch, etc. The pad is just the scaled down version of this design, and it uses the smaller mouse switches

Well, they aren't traditional microswitches. They have a flexible metal disc in place of a button on a leaf spring, to reduce height/travel dramatically, but they work mechanically in a similar way.

lmao how the fuck do you break modern mouse switches?

>> No.6857649

>>6856387
these honestly aren't as great as people claim, the separation between diagonals and single directions is unclear and there's a lot of travel distance/time compared to a traditional dpad. Feels fun to use for arcade games though

I have a neo geo pro controller and I want to cut a hole in it a turbo button for shooters. Would I regret this, for some reason this controller is now worth a lot of money. Alpha mission, andro dunos etc, a bit annoying having to tap the button the whole game. I was just going to cut a hole and stick in a arcade button connected to a 555 circuit for autofire so I still have the normal but for charge shots.

>>6856558
Pressing left and right quickly is platform game could be a bit slower. You get used to it anyway.

The problem is that the design of the 4-way ministick is flawed in more ways than one. Almost every pad you can buy nowadays is busted. I myself had to sacrifice a second controller to combine both controllers' good microswitches to have one good pad. It's perfect now but for how long?

The original pad is more like pic related though. Pushbutton microswitches. (notice the heavy plastic dust that the pad makes which fucks up the microswitches)

Interesting design. Didn't know that. I knew that the new pad for the mini wasn't clicky, and people would mod it with microswitches and 3D printed parts.

>nobody makes replacement switches for the thumbsticks
These beautiful little bastards are getting rarer and rarer and they will all die someday. Why can't someone make a basic microswitch for them?
