it alright

>> No.6852053

its ok legends/dark legacy were more fun

>> No.6852060

I think the arcade levels are mostly random and just loop to the start, some of the home versions have endings.

>> No.6852072

>>6852060
theyre not randomly generated. theyre all premade. whats random is the order you do them. and the reason there is no ending is think about dropping five quarters into the game and then you beat it. how pissed would you be to loose over a dollar just like that

>> No.6852114

Not a big fan of the NES version because they limited the maps to 2x2 screens so they wouldn't have to deal with updating the tile map.

Gauntlet on Genesis has some of the best music on the system.

Is this that game that was ported to Wii that had the "Knome" class?

>> No.6852149

>>6852139

There's also a Dungeon Explorer II, which you can also play on your Wii if you wanna. There's also another game in rhe series called Crystal Beans (also playable on Wii).

As kids in the early 90s that was always the goal--beat the game. We'd be disappointed if that wasn't an option. Infinite games like Pac-Man (yes I know, but PRACTICALLY infinite) could be fun but felt lower stakes to us somehow. Like you knew the quarters were already being wasted upon dropping them.

The C64 port is probably my favorite home version of Gauntlet.

>> No.6854480

Gauntlet is great, especially playing side-by-side with someone at a machine.

Unfortunately the four player mode from the arcade wasn't possible to recreate on home systems until the 5th gen (and the Saturn and PS1 would still need a tap for four controllers).

Legends and Dark Legacy are some of the most fun co-op games ever made, with god tier atmosphere.
The Arrowhead Studios reboot is just okay
