I don't know why but for me PSone has a charm that PS2 lacks (let's not talk about PS3 which I'll never buy, I'll only borrow one when the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle will come out) despite the fact that PS2 has many great games. Maybe it has to do with the fact that PSOne has a better games library? That it was one of the consoles that along with Saturn and N64 made the 5th generation one of my favourite generations? That it made so many people started playing video games even for a short period? That it made video games more acceptable to the wide audience and therefore you could discuss with video games with almost anyone?

I don't know if anyone else has the same feeling.

It's called nostalgia man, everybody feels it.

The era you're longing for is early 3D I guess? Not as early as like that wireframe stuff in the 80s but you know low res poly and whatnot.

I grew up with the N64 but I like the PSX a lot more because of how crisp and jagged everything was, that and the crystal clear audio. Loading wasn't so great though because of optical media.

Tomba is an interesting example because the first one was really charming late 2D and the second one was really charming early 3D

didn't the first one use prerendered sprites though?

also fuck resellers this game is expensive as dick

OP here. I like PSOne, N64 and Saturn at the same amount since each console has it own charms, therefore I can't choose any of them as my favourite from the 5th generation. Oh! And I forgot to mention GBC.

Why's that? I thought that Tomba made lots of copies and it sold pretty well if not to the point to be a Platinum. At least it got a PSN release.

PS2 had a good library of exclusives, but they got overlooked in favor of multiplatform crap.

WhoopieCamp went bankrupt after those two games. It's probably a collector's item.

I dispute that. I don't find the PS1 that way, nostalgia or not. And I think the VIC-20 is very cute even though it predates me.

There were millions of copies of that ET game for the Atari produced. What's your point?

The company that made it doesn't exist anymore.

It's not THAT bad, it's around 50 bucks for both on average, but it still pisses me off

that's it's a common game and far from being rare or a "collector's item"

do you think Atari ET is expensive or something?

The PS1's my favorite console, OP. Nostalgia certainly plays a role, but i keep digging games i've never even heard about and have a fucking blast with them. Early 3D is incredibly charming.

Same here. With the PS2 I have already discovered (and mostly played) all the games that interested me (except Dragon Quest 8 and Grandia Xtreme). On the other hand with PSX I have played so many great games since its launch yet there are so many others (from well-known titles till more obscure ones) I want to play. Just like with SNES. That's why for many people, PSX is actually the best successor of SNES it terms of games library, expecially since all these companies who supported Nintendo moved to PSX since they couldn't do shit with N64's cartidges.

what the game's in the pic ? , I know it has nothing to do with the thread but I need to remember that game

It's from Tomba for PSOne, one of the best platform games of all times with some nice rpg elements and of course one of the best PSOne exclusive. So yeah, it's kinda related to this thread.

I hated the second one's graphics. Felt two "young-PS2-era".
