I love those shitty 3D glasses Sly 3 had you pop out of the manual.

I wasn't aware there was a difference. Did the Euro version ship with the glasses that looked like the logo that they used in the press promos?

sly 3 was so bad though! Unnecessary characters ruined it for me

European glasses were more square shape unlike american glasses (pic-related)

Not the best in the series, but I didn't hate it or anything. Just thought the 3D gimmick was kind of neat (and I also liked being able to play as Carmelita)

>square shaped
You mean like these? These are actually what we got as well, those ones in your pic were only used for press events and promos.

I like the characters though, unironically the story of 3 made me attached to them, and gameplay wise they're not all different from Bently's and Murry's gameplay in 1 and 2

Nice! Reposting the OP from a thread I made some time ago about the first game.

Sly visuals are the first thing that attracted me to the game, amidst a pletora of PS2 Mascot platformers, Sly stands outs for it's cel-shaded visuals and it's clearly comic-book inspired FMV's. It also has some slick presentation borrowed from Heist movies.
Sly 1 also borrows a lot from the platformers that came before it, but still manages to put their spin on it. Unlike other platformers, their hub-based levels feel like they belong to the same world. The thieving abilities like sneaking, running on ropes and the various gadgets that are received throughout the game makes Sly gameplay stand-out. At the end of the journey you felt like you became a master thief.
The story is okay for a platformer, the revenge plot is simple, but it's the banter between characters that gives the story it's charm. Sadly, Bentley is restricted to chair-nerd, and Murray only appears in minigames. Every VA did a great job except Carmelita, which felt so one-tone and emotionless.

I do have some problems with the story and gameplay though. Sly 1 really tried to put their own spin on things, but sometimes to not great effect. Minigames are mostly fine, but as they increase in quantity towards the end, it affects the pace of the game, culminating in the minigames festival at the last world, after the somber tone of the FMV, I was surprised by arcadey music and a on-rails shooter. After that, there is 3 more minigames and the disappointing boss fight which robs the game's catharsis. Some abilities are completely useless, like the short range on the hat bomb.
Speaking of music and while I enjoy the OST, I feel there is a trade-off here between the seemless normal/fight themes switch, and the complexity of the music itself. Most tunes feels loopey and arcardey, which isn't bad, but I still ocasionally listen to the Sly 2&3 OST outside of the game, but not for Sly 1.

I finished 2 not long ago, and the final area was a complete mess to navigate. Hated it.

The hat bomb wasn't worthless, you could kill a guard with it as their patrol took them past it.

Just hit them with your cane at that point, it's basically the same range.

I thought it was just okay. India part 2 and the final hub world were easily the low points of the game, and they shared some of the same issues. The main one for me was how something around half the area was accessible only via a single path. India 2 had some weird shit where you had to climb a ton of things just to get to anything that was high up, and the final area had only one narrow passage leading higher.
To make matters worse, it could be a little hard to see where your destination is due to all the things in the way. Maybe i'm just shit at navigation though.

>> No.6823128

>>6823106
Not him, but I agree, the jungle and the last level had bad level design, although you have a lot of navigation abilities by the last level, so it isn't that bad.
The story easily elevates the jungle vhapter though, the last level is pretty whack, suffers the same problems as the last in the first game.

>make jump in area where you're chasing the final boss
>fall short and die
>make the same jump the same way next time
>easily make it

Is it me or was that area super inconsistent?

The Sly games have awful platforming but the feral pounce from Sly 2 is very satisfying to use. I love how there's a moment of stick when Sly lands.

>> No.6823693

I played through the first game a month ago and loved it, save for the minigames. How do Sly 2 and 3 compare?

>> No.6824209

>>6823693
Almost completely different from Sly1. They both center exclusively around one world for each country instead of them acting as hub worlds to different stages, which might be disappointing. There's a bit more variety to the missions instead of mainly platforming, but the enjoyable thing about Sly platforming for me was running and jumping and seeing your moves connect with one another, spiral jumping and grabbing onto hooks. I played Sly 3 first and later found that there's more of it in 1.
They also have problems completely opposite from each other. Sly 2 can feel like it just drags on for way too long, while Sly 3 is as short as the first game.
I still like the latter two games though, you'll just have to see it for yourself.

He could already drop bombs and shoot tranquilizer darts before right? His wheelchair just add him jump higher and float in the air for some bit. And I just felt the Sly gang characters were better in Sly 3.

the tranq darts only worked when they felt like it. I swear every time i shot it, it was a coin flip as to if it'd put them to sleep or just piss them off.
