Now that the dust has settled, was making sixth gen certified /retro/ a good idea?

Goodbye obscure games but I guess that was always a problem with 4chan where only popular games saw discussion.

They should have made a separate board, like everyone asked. It's not incorrect to say ps2 is retro, but it is insincere to lump that generation in with the previous generations, it was what most people consider a pivot point for the entire industry, and is also so popular that its inclusion here completely kills discussion for the older systems.

We used to be able to have madou monogatari or puyo puyo generals that lasted weeks but I doubt that's possible now.

So is this board legit dead now? I mean, its always been slow-ish, but holy shit..

Yeah it was, except for the fools that post shit like Bioshock and Portal - which were designed for the 360 and PS3 but are somehow retro in their minds because they run on Windows XP. I call trolling

Needs work. I'd prefer no Gen 6, but a revision of the rules might be a better middleground if they really won't create /v2k/
>push pc back to 2005 maybe 2006.
>let Gen 6 run its software through its lifetime. Who cares if it had late lifetime sports/shovelware. If people wanna meme with pes13, fuck it. At least it's not Halo 3 and Bioshock.

It's the loopholes that really ruin the board atm, plus all the shit posting on both sides of the Gen 6 ruling .

Bad idea.
Would've worked fine if the jannies had just increased the cut-off date to either 2001 or (if you wanna stretch it that far) 2006. That way Deus Ex could've still gotten in without purists screeching "NOT RETRO" (ironically, I believe those purists are to blame for the new rule change).
Instead Jannies put the rule up to 2007.
Even then, I still believe /v2k/ is better.
It's become impossible to talk about ANY games without the thread dying quickly.
I will say one thing. /vr/ was bound to die though. This just hastened it's death. Autists were forming retarded safespaces and were spamming threads, turning it into /v/ 2.0. This change may have killed off those autists, but it brought in new ones or encouraged some that were already breaking rules.

>>6820569
It's impossible to talk about ANY obscure games on here now. I tried talking about Chameleon, Vietcong, Kabus 22, I-Ninja, Ultimate Spider-Man etc. It Archives within seconds with no replies despite those being obscure 2000s vidya. Can't talk about retro obscure, can't talk about 2000s obscure. This board is doomed.

>> No.6820753

>>6820721
Ports of retro games are allowed and that autist used that breach in the rules to discuss GBA as a whole.
That's just the usual bait and switch tactic used mostly by /pol/tards and pedos everywhere on this site. The OP of your thread complies to the rules but you make sure that the discussion deviates from it and eventually derails.

Yeah, I know he did. But I did notice that even after the rule change there was a flood of posts like "hey guise, Super Mario Advance 1 thread", "Super Mario Advance 2 thread", and so on. It's just weird because I notice a lot of zoomers conplain about SNES gamea being old and outdated, while fauning over ports of them.

>> No.6820768

>>6820752
Agree wit all of this.
Can't even discuss Tropico 1 on this board because it came out in 2001 - I seriously didn't expect the jannies to be that particular about removing threads.

4chan in general is so heavily moderated now however that it's worse than facebook for handing out bans.

>> No.6820769

>>6820638
I grew up with gen 6, but I'm fine with or without only discussing earlier gens. I got into older games cuz of the Animal Crossing NES games and then later because of the Wii Virtual Console, and I've since admired them.

Honestly, I think if they were gonna make this change they should've had the cutoff be when the Xbox 360 came out, because that was the start of 7th gen. If that thing I read about them making the cutoff gen 8 just because of Portal is true, that actually pisses me off because I'd prefer an unbiased decision.

There was nothing good about stagnant Puyo threads hanging around for weeks on end. I love the game but other than how to build chains there's very little to talk about and no reason they need to go on that long.
