Yuffie and Vincent where my team first time I ever played. Both awesome despite shitty limit breaks. yuffies healing can be fuck handy though.

Barret, Barret, Barret. Not the best in magic stats, but he's great with defence and his ultimate weapon deals more damage based on the AP of the materia inserted.

Crap, I just realized Aeris is the only character with support limit breaks.

this is my issue with most final fantasy games, so many irrelevant skills.

been replaying FF9. i fucking love this game but it sucks that so many skills have zero use except for steal, damage magic, and healing.

Because everything else is easier. Doesn't help that the game (not even the little help moogle) does not explain the exact workings for a lot of them. Like Quina's aqualung, which is said to be water elemental when in fact it works like a gravity attack.

Anyone you want, 'cause the Materia system is laid out like that. You can boost stats with Sources once you get the Morph materia. Use the Laser enemy skill (or any Demi- school spells) to drop HP fast for a successful Morph.

I wish Aeris's limit breaks didn't suck so badly.

I mean I get they're support, sure...

But her Healing Wind is actually row-dependant, since you use it with the Attack command.

And giving her skills that allow complete invulnerability is just dumb. Make the fight easier, please, not impossible to lose.

It doesn't matter. You can literally get through the entire game selecting >Attack for every single option, and there are no stat differences between any characters.

You want a cat caster? Use XIII. You want fluffy Mallow-casting? Use Cait. Shinobi-jutsu? Yuffie. Ranged-in-the-back-already? Vincent/Barret. Have to use a chick only for casting because you're a sexist pig? Use Tifa. Using only Cloud because it's too easy and you're using only Cloud? Use Cloud.

Honestly, it doesn't matter. Use someone as a caster, if you want. Or don't. Level up and split your materia, and give everyone KOTR. Or don't. None of it matters anyway.

Use the secret character, Joachim. You have to have saved his village already though, and you're probably past that point if you're playing now. Although if you've made the right choices you may actually be able to go back, not sure about that.

i wouldnt get joachim. cloud is already overpowered and joachim's limit breaks are even cheaper than cloud. he could be good for fighting the weapons low level but other than that i say dont bother

The hard hack on Insane Difficulty is cool because the way the guy changed the weapons makes everyone kind of useful in different capacities in early-mid game. For example Red XIII's Seraph Comb has no materia slots but very high attack, so I turned him into an auto-berserker. Also, boss behaviors are changed so they do wilier things and you can't cheap shot certain bosses with Phoenix Downs or Water Rings, etc.

You can literally put magic on anyone and their attack will not suffer enough to worry. Most of my characters are usually loaded with all kinda of meteria. What it really comes down to, is effective combinations.
