Nothing really confirms or denies it. What makes this story unlikely though is that everything that guy mentions was already mentioned in interviews prior: features like the mask system that you could design yourself with an external program were originally supposed to be in OoT, and was cut when the project was moved from the disk drive to cartridge (actually turned into the mask trade sidequest).

That doesn't make sense. Why would they have given them proto content of M64 and Z64, let alone Starfox 2, ALTTP proto content if their job was simply localizing it for Chinese and making iQue-specific tweaks? It seems more likely iQue had FTP credentials that gave them access to an archival server directly at Nintendo and this is why the hacker was able to make off with stuff that iQue would have no reason to have or be given directly

This is somewhat related to this thread but not really, it's just something I don't really know where I can discuss without mods complaining about "b-but that's illegal", and also somewhat technical.

So I hope someone who has been keeping up with leaks in the past 15 years reads this.

I was doing some RE on a gamecube game, and ended up reversing some internal routines for its OS module, the memory allocation to be precise. Now I know the SDK with debugs symbols was leaked years ago. But its source code wasn't. It's a well known fact that the Wii is just an overclocked gamecube with an ARM co-processor/hypervisor, so its SDK is basically a newer version of the gamecube SDK, but the recent leaks from this years only contain the source code for things that ran on the ARM CPU, there wasn't source code that was targeting the PPC CPU.

Still, I googled some symbols and ended up finding this right there:
http://www.pudn.com/Download/item/id/377834.html

It's some chinese file upload site, and this file uploaded in December 2007.

Cont...

>> No.6799517

>>6799505
Cont
It's some trimmed source code from the Wii SDK. I say trimmed because some file only contain stubbed functions, while other files contain the full original source code (the memory allocation part I was originally interested in).
This is undoubtedly the original source code because there still are copyright notices from Nintendo on some files, and the source code hasn't changed much from the Gamecube era. For example the memory allocation code matched perfectly with the compiled version.
There are a few things of note here:
The description says it's "A small operating system, provide the basic operating system can be, we can refer to", but it's obviously part of Dolphin OS. Was this to hide what it was, or was this used as the basis of another project? The stubbed functions are pretty low level routines, and some file reference the popular SDL library (for its threads?). Maybe it was some chinese teacher that stole that code and reused it for a course? Also you can access the uploader's other file and you can find the source code for the Wii's mathematical functions.

Does anyone know if the full source code of the GC/WII SDK ever leaked or if those are the only parts we have access to?

It takes 30 seconds to download GLideN64, extract it to your plug-ins folder, and select it in the settings. You're a fucking imbecile if you willingly use outdated and inaccurate emulation options when there are clearly superior options readily available to you. If you want to play Kirby Super Star, why bother using SNES9x or Higan when "ZSNES just works"? Actual room temperature IQ take right here.

>In some ways the spiritual precursor to GTA3, made even by the same company. Note a couple of things: unlike with any RDP HLE plugin ever, not only can we cross the bridge, but we can do so without the player literally walking through the bridge instead of walking correctly on top of it. High-level RSP up until now has been too buggy to accurately enable both Body Harvest US and European versions from working with the crossbridge (a patch by LegendofDragoon made it work for the European version, but with any HLE plugin you would still see the player character essentially walking through the bridge when passing over it, and in the US version you just plain cannot cross the bridge unless you are using a low-level RSP plugin.

>So, low-level RDP in conjunction with low-level RSP takes care of all that.

Has anyone tried using low resolution optical character recognition?
I remember reading about AI in the late 2000s that could take blurry pixels from a photo and use analysis to tell what English characters must have been there to create that arrangement of pixels.
This might be related. I found it by searching "low resolution optical character recognition". AI might be able to solve the mystery of the plaque once and for all.

The unfixed ROM was leaked by "skyhawk" of the German fan translation site, Alemanic Translations. Apparently skyhawk claimed to have found this game on a prototype cart and dumped it himself, probably leading to the widespread belief this game was found off a prototype cart. In reality, Star Fox 2 was leaked as a pure assembled binary from a former developer who wanted the game emulated, and the ROM was not in a proper SNES ROM format initially. There was no source code leaked, nor was there ever a prototype or production cart of it. Soon after the leak of Star Fox 2, emulator authors incorporated proper Super FX emulation, allowing the general community to play the game in all its glory.

According to this article: http://snescentral.com/article.php?id=0077

Sorry, I should have quoted the whole thing. The real blockbuster, which served as the pinnacle of the SNES emulation scene, in my opinion, was the release of the final beta of Star Fox 2 in August 2002 (well documented by d4s in this FAQ, who also had a big hand in the discovery of the ROM image). The first screenshots appeared on the now defunct website, sportkompaktwoche.de.

Here's an archived version of the website: http://web.archive.org/web/20021122053021/http://www.sportkompaktwoche.de/

Dylan Cuthbert probably wasn't the leaker. It was leaked after he left Argonaut.

AMN - Do you know how Star Fox 2 was leaked out onto the Internet?

Dylan - No idea, but I didn't clean out my hard drive when I left Argonaut, so someone could easily have half-inched it from there at some point over the years.

AMN - Why are there two known betas of Star Fox 2?

Dylan - No idea again, probably different stages of development - the first beta seems to be from the Winter CES version we made. There were probably a number of ROM images on archive at Argonaut.

I didn't feel like making a thread for this, but thought maybe it had something to do with this?
I was just messing around with lttp and game genie codes. (AEA8-D4FA Walk through anything vertically.)
So I decided to see what all I could do before rescuing Zelda. As I was going around the map, and into the first three dungeons, I started noticing things on the map were different. Then this shallow path in Lake Hylia that lets you walk from the dock in the northwest, to the fairy fountain island in the middle. I haven't seen this before, and quickly googling it, didn't really see anything mentioning it? Is this widely known? Was thinking maybe the parts that were different were leftovers from an earlier build, if not a very late one?

Then this in the Eastern Palace. There are a bunch of other rearranged areas in the dungeons. Keys in different places, differences in the layouts. I'm playing the standard rom, just with that game genie cheat to walk through stuff vertically. As far as I know, it's the standard USA rom, not sure what rev though. I was using the game genie code I mentioned before, otherwise everything should have been vanilla.

It's mostly the dungeons that have weird minor changes. Where you get the hammer, how it's on that ledge to the left, that whole platform was shifted to the lower left corner.
There aren't a ton of changes in the overworlds, the biggest thing I saw was the weird path through Lake Hylia in my first post (>>6811435), and then also, on most of the docks, or whatever they're called, they've got a small area of shallow water at the base of them that I don't think is anywhere in the final game?
It's really weird. Like I said, I've played the game for many years, and have messed around with some of the exploration glitches, but never saw actual parts of maps change. It's probably like >>6817182 said. The game genie code itself is doing it, or it's a result of being able to get out of sequence at the very beginning of the game possibly loading things in wrong.
To the best of my knowledge, it's not a romhack, and I'm not trying to dupe anyone. Just a weird thing that popped up when messing around with game genie.

I love bitwise operations as much as the next guy, but I find it pretty funny that the decomp's use of &= etc. is so much less readable than the original's setflag(flags, flag) function.

I figured with most nintendo programmers having just come from programming systems that required assembly, their code would look more like "C written by assembly programmers" but in this case, the decomp better fits that description.

Sometimes I wish I saved all those dev interviews so I could easily source what I'm about to claim, but for now we'll have to make do with my memory of them.

The common story about how the overworld developed is actually three pieces of information mentioned in interviews stiched together.
1) Alternate overworlds for different time periods were considered as far back as the first Zelda (I guess the code for overworld patching ended up being used to slightly alter the second quest overworld). They considered the same idea in the early stages of ALttP's development, but it's unclear if any of it ever made it past the concept stage. We do know overworld patching became the technical basis for the Dark World.
2) One dev mentioned that ALttP at some point had three overworlds. However, while either designing or testing it, they found out switching between three worlds would be too confusing for the average player, so they cut one out.
3) The dream world concept that was used in LA was ripped from ALttP's beta. Specifically the dev mentioned that ALttP's story originally had a dream world with a big egg on a mountain, and when the egg eventually broke the dream world would collapse.

People usually interpret these points to mean that first there were a past, present, and future overworld in the game, then they got turned into a waking, dream, and nightmare world, and when the dream world got cut the remaining two got turned into the light and dark worlds. Of course, there's a couple of flaws and assumptions in the reasoning here, but it's what most people tend to roll with.

Probably a matter of a function definition of param1 &= param2 getting optimized out by the compiler and nobody working on the decomp thought to see if making it a function after they got the correct line of code would still compile to the same binary since the evidence of it having been a function was gone. The decomp is assembly back to C so it isn't surprising that some one line functions might have been missed by the RE team and just inlined instead, as output by the compiler. Whereas the original programmers would write what makes sense to them, then let the compiler optimize it further.

I wish I could get excited about pokemon. Playable early mario/zelda snes/n64/gamecube builds would give me a heart attack, but not pokemon. Ah who am I to complain? It's cool for the fans of the series, and also reassuring that there are still leaks happening.

Well Gigaleak1 had all Nintendo's pre-N64 workstations or proof that said workstations' backups failed. Hard to really imagine what else would be left unless they had servers in that era with meticulous backups as well. But usually if you have servers you don't need workstation backups since people just work out of network drives...at least in today's modern environments. NEWS-OS was quite a different system though. Do we know if NEWS workstations typically did operate with servers or central repositories?

Interesting that the Taco was in development at the same time as the DS and that gameboy successor. Seems like SEGA levels of poor communication within the company and competing money sinks in which only one survives.

I assume it's likely the Taco would have been Nintendo's second attempt at an experimental handheld to ride with the GBA2 if the DS didn't catch on. However the DS did so well that neither became necessary.

Makes you wonder what other cancelled systems Nintendo has, and which ones have test units.

More discussion on the Tako please? For those not aware of the leak today; the Tako was in development in 2003 for a planned release in 2005. It was going to be basically a suped up handheld GameCube that was also able to connect and be displayed on a tv. So basically a less powerful Switch in 2005.
However, the DS (which many at Nintendo internally and their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd development parties feared could be a failure. If you remember, the DS was initially introduced as an experimental console than would run parallel with the Gameboy line. There was actually a GBA successor in development completely unrelated to the DS or Tako that was also cancelled.
Clearly due to the DS's massive success Nintendo decided to cancel the other two handhelds and focus on the DS as their flagship handheld line.

.In the leaked presentation it was clearly stated that the Tako was to be Nintendo's next flagship console in both the home console and handheld markets. (Obviously due to Sega esque business bullshit there were internal disagreements hence why the DS and GBA2 were also in development)
Nintendo wanted to introduce something like the Switch to market in 2005. However it wouldn't make sense to introduce a handheld hybrid with the DS being a success.
Given the Tako specs were basically that of a suped up Gamecube, I wonder if perhaps rather than completely abandon the hardware it was perhaps repurposed into the Wii given it's also a suped up Gamecube.

Now this is likely a reach, but what if the (primitive version of) Joycons may have been planned as far back as the Tako (perhap later in development post the leaked presentation and hardware maps) and were also repurposed for the Wii controllers?

I always felt like that control scheme was the same general idea as the OoT one (face buttons used to switch between 4 prechosen items on the fly) but better due to the extra control you get with the extra analogue stick. Also, manually-controlled jumping with the right shoulder versus clunky "jump by running off a cliff in the right way" style OoT actually used.

So with SM64, Sunshine & Galaxy now officially shown off, I noticed a random thing for anyone curious.

For 64, they've kept all of the textures the same as they were originally released, but the HUD has been re-drawn. The Mario head is most noticeable. I think it's a brand new 2020 render, but it does look very, very close to the original. They did a good job. The rest of the HUD is similar but quite different.

The Sunshine HUD looks like a mixture of new recreations and original sprites but now higher res, so I guess maybe they had some in high quality in their archive and some not.

Galaxy's HUD mostly looks the same, although there's a little difference in the life meter.

Huh, I’ve never seen these before, but is it safe to assume that after the dev team decided to roll with Hyrule Castle Town as a one-gate town at the edge of Hyrule Field, they used some of the leftover ideas and assets for a central, circular, 4-gate town for Termina’s Clocktown? It looks like there’s very minimal difference in the geometry for the gates here compared to Termina.

>>6825414
Maybe the trees would have been designed without collision, sort of like the dried up bushes in the emptier, “wooded” areas of release-build Hyrule. You can clip through them and they’ll shake a little as they brush aside, but they aren’t registered as solid. Actually, would the collision mesh include them if they were like the final build’s trees (solid, indestructible, but rolling into them causes a slight bend) or boulders (solid, destructible)?

If it was, we would have found it in the leaks by now. If anything, it was meant for Super Mario 64 2 before that got canned.

After watching the Super Mario 3D All-Stars trailer again, I can definitely say they've remastered the textures and for some, even remade them from the ground up. I'm excited.

>> No.6827696

Also, in the Sunshine footage at the end of the Direct, they used the beta coin sound from Super Mario 64.
I wonder why that is.

>> No.6828202

Even if they based it on the original release, they would obviously patch out BLJ. You couldn't do it in Super Mario 64 DS either, and I assume that game was based on the original SM64 source considering that they did this with the 3DS remakes of the Zelda games. It's such a tiny thing to fix, just add a cap to the negative speed.

>> No.6828225

>>6828202
You actually can BLJ in SM64DS. It just doesn't give you the same crazy amount of speed and it works a bit differently.

Mod your Wii and play it with Nintendont. It even allows you to play games at 16:9 resolutions that didn't originally support it, and component cables are cheap as fuck for a Wii compared to the rare and expensive GameCube ones.

The collection is 5GB, so it comes on a 8GB cartridge.
Considering Galaxy 1 is 3,26 GB while Galaxy 2 is 1,30 GB, I don't believe that bullshit for a second.
