Never seen this discussed here. What does /vr/ think of this game?

>> No.6765591

Fun but it has the ugliest fucking character design in the universe.

Great except for the end where you have to go collect those retard bears and you need to get them all

They were trying so hard to look like anime, but it backfired. Rare in 2020 would do a much better job.

Great game. A Rare collectathon done right. Backtracking for ship parts and tribals dont feel as much of a chore since visiting the same world with different characters actually open very different areas. The arsenal is also very fun to play with and some small details, like beheading ants and tribals, give the game charm. If i had to nitpick some things about it I would complain about the slow transition between characters, and how OP the tri-rocket launcher is making every other weapon useless in comparison.
It also has a GOAT OST:

All in all I rate it 9/10.

It's shit and unplayable like every other shooter on the N64.

best game on the N64 in my top three of best games in general. no idea why it isn't brought up more often. Realtalk, why was the abandoned Space Station so FUCKING terrifying as a level?

Agreed. This wouldn't be bad except you can accidentally kill them.

>>6765616
Autoaim is also kind of heavy, but it is N64. Not only is the OST great, but it's one of those games with lots of TECHNOLOGY and hidden shit, unlockables, codes, etc. It has a massive amount of content. I think I still have the strategy guide somewhere.

Yeah, the actual texturework is quite good, the coloring/lighting gives a greater level of depth and seperates it from more conventional looking 5th gen games.

I got this secondhand recently and tried to get into it, but couldnt. I love Rareware and I love N64 but this just didntclick for me.
>Controls are awkward
>Difficult to make out what is going on
>Looks like Nanosaur or some basic Mac OS 9 game
>Cutesy Rareware style but then guns and explosions ??? Feels out of place
>Turns into collectathon like so many Rare games
I dont think its terrible but nah, its not for me.

Absolutely loved this as a kid, even though I was scared of bugs. Replaying it these days is tough because I'm used to a better control scheme for these kinds of games. Still plan on beating it sometime though since I still got the cart of it.

Reminder that you can vastly improve the controls by setting "Expert controls" on the option menu. It lets you move in all 8 directions while on aiming mode instead of only left-right.

Sadly most of the fan art from that era has been wiped off the internet.

>> No.6769384

The copy I had was missing a switch to free Velma, even had the cheat code book for it that showed where it was, it just wasn't there, so never got to beat it.

Multiplayer was fun.

Did rent and get farther, haven't beaten it,

>> No.6769398

Holy shit that looks better already. Literally all they needed was at least one weeb. Imagine if it instead looked more like Megaman 64.

>> No.6769408

The controls in this game are fair but they bug me quite a bit, as they have since the game released. Normally you move around with your left hand, but while aiming you move with your right. In present day I understand third person shooters work the best when you always move with the left hand and always aim with the right... I guess on the n64 you would have to achieve this goldeneye-style by moving with the dpad and aiming on the stick. Anyway if you can get past the controls this might very well be the best game on n64, it's huge, ambitious, atmospheric, has a stellar soundtrack and even kicks ass in multiplayer. If this game had traditional tps controls I'm confident zoomers would eat it up

there were beta screenshots or renders or something of the female character where she had a sexier design
so magazines were kinda talking that way about her and the perception stuck somewhat after they toned her down/fucked her up/whatever

First day?
Anyway, it's a decent game if you can get past the horrendously awkward controls. Fuck 100% Tribals requirement, though.
