Hello /vr/, I posted in an n64 thread a while back saying that I had ordered replacement joystick parts from Kitsch-Bent for my controllers, and that I might make a thread when they arrive. They took about 3 weeks to arrive, but the result is quite nice an comparable to an OEM joystick. Not exactly the same, but pretty close. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

>> No.6764893

were you disappointed when mom and dad bought you a n64 instead of a ps1?

>> No.6764896

What exactly feels different compared to a new stick?

Truth is, my family was a Sega family until the PlayStation came out, and I never had a Nintendo console until I got a Wii in 2009. Bought an n64 from a friend a month ago and here I am.

Well, for one. The main joystick is completely clear instead of grey, so that’s just a visual thing. It doesn’t have the same “snap-back into position” thing that most n64 controllers have, but it still snaps back, just not in the same way.

Have you ran any and tests on range and deadzones? Often there's a lot of variance in the shape of the analog range and accuracy between even OEM controllers.

Any sticks that have the same basic feel as the default, but more hard-wearing parts?

Steel Sticks. That’s about it. I’ve never had one before, as they’re difficult as fuck to get, but it seems to be the one you’d want.

Hard to trust this chart when they give a new N64 stick 10/10 for feel. Even new those sticks feel pretty awful. And they give the Hori about a 5-6/10 for feel when that stick feels as good and smooth as the best modern stick

Whens the last time you felt a new OEM stick?
Cause I had one and it felt flawless for many hours of play. My tests are goron roll in majoras mask and making mario turn around gently in mario 64

Just to make sure, did you lubricate your oem stick? It’ll increase the lifespan exponentially

>> No.6767079

>>6766759
It's saying the Lodgenet controller vastly overshoots the range of the original stick and thus is shit. The best one is the steel replacement which barely overshoots and is most accurate to the original.

This controller is so awkward. I tried finding the most comfortable way to use this controller, it can't be done. I need a third hand.

You are an idiot. The whole problem with all these sticks is trying to get them to match the original.

It has a rom which lets you test sticks.
>This app lets you test your N64 controller. You can check all the buttons and also the analog stick.

>For the analog stick is has a build in benchmark which you can use to compare the quality of different thumbstick replacements.

>It even comes with some presets of the most common replacements and also from a brand new original thumbstick.

I have a barely used N64 controller and the stick feels waaay too stiff. It's really hard to make subtle movements, I was jerking everywhere in Automobili Lanborghini.
I think you're supposed to break in those sticks. I have another, heavily-used controller and the stick is much more precise.

The snap-back is caused by the spring inside more than the replacement parts. Make sure that the spring is centered ontop of each part properly and it will help with the feeling. The only issue I have is that the initial plugging in of the controller has enough wiggle to cause minor minor issues in certain titles if I'm not careful about centering it, but not bad enough that the controller will have issues with snapback.
