Are there any must play GB / GBC games that are available on the 3DS virtual console.
I haven't really played any Game Boy games since I was a kid... so I assume I missed out on some good stuff.

>> No.669856

Tetris.

>> No.669876

man... just scrolling through the selection... links awakening seems to be the only really stand out title there - what is the deal with this virtual console.

was there just not that many great gameboy games?

avenging spirit is a good interesting platformer.
its only downfall is its really short. but it is pretty hard so it will last longer then you think.

Handheld gaming only became great after GBA was released.

Well it was intended for children. I'd say GBC has some great games though

I expect it to pick up bigger eventually, Maybe Pokemon RBY or FRLG will be lazily shoved in on an anniversary or something.

Here are two that won't make it to VC though at least, due to the fact that you won't be able to play them right on anything but a GBC.
>Kirby Tilt N' Tumble
GBA SP controls are reversed, still slightly weird on the original.
>Pokemon Pinball
The rumble doesn't really feel right on anything else.

*weird on the original GBA

* Donkey Kong ´94 definitely. Honestly beats the crap out of the Country series.
* Metroid II is also great. It's understandable I suppose if you wouldn't like it. It is pretty darned cramped (while some would call it claustrophobic)
* Gargoyle's Quest. The series got better with time but still solid.
* An old friend used to have Mole Mania. I remember it as being pretty fun! I should emulate it one of these days.
* Wario Land.

man i played pokemon pinball to death on an emulator when i was a kid.

strange the kind of stuff you will find endlessly amusing as a child, i'm sure fundamentally it was a terribly game (especially played with a 90's mac keyboard)

You do realize the 3DS has a gyroscope right?

but the 3DS has accelerometers. They could make a Tilt n Tumble for it!!! That'd be insanely great.

>> No.669980

woah.. I just noticed there's a whole bunch of Game & Watch games on the eShop now. Not the GB / GBC collections, but actual emulated game and watch games.

They seem a little pricy at 1,99€ each... Still - I'm quite curious.

I actually had the Donkey Kong Jr. Game & Watch when I was a kid, passed down from my uncle after he died. Wish I had it with me these days - I think it's still in storage somewhere at my parents place.

>> No.669984

Honestly, the Game Boy selection on the 3DS could've been a lot worse. The NES collection is very underwhelming, the only stand-out titles for me being Recca and download play Contra.

>>669954
Please listen to everything this Gentleman said. Those games are 3DS essentials.

Also worth mentioning:

The Sword of Hope II is a basic but very enjoyable RPG.

Legend of the River King, which is an awesome fishing RPG.

Kid Icarus: Of Myth And Monsters is much better than the original.

And you must get Castlevania 2: Belmont's Revenge when it inevitably comes out.

me and my mom played mole mania when I was a kid on the super game boy. good and challenging game after the first world.

I stand by it. The sheer amount of creative level design that game has is still pretty unrivaled by anything. Plus, it's probably the game that best shows off the features of the Super Game Boy something which Rare just couldn't into.

You can't really compare them. One's a puzzle/platformer and the other is a straight platformer.

>>670259
The graphical style doesn't lend itself well to the Super Game Boy format. Besides, only a handful of games actually utilized it's functions beyond fancy borders.

Donkey King '94 did though

Of course you can. One is fantastic game and the other is not. There, compared.

Played the crap out of Pokemon red/blue/yellow

I don't even like pokemon but the game was great. That was my one and only venture into the pokeworld. I'm sure the next games must have been better with time but these were fun for me at the time. Enough to play all three and not be a pokemon fan.

Shantae (coming to 3DS VC soon)
Revelations: The Demon Slayer
Mega Man Xtreme 1 and 2
MG Ghost Babel (MG GB)
Pokemon Crystal
SMB Deluxe
Donkey Kong 94
Link's Awakening DX
I am forgetting a lot.

Handheld gaming had always been great! The original gameboy already had great games like marios, castlevanias, zelda, kirbys, megamans, bombermans...

C'mon, let's stay on topic.
My advice is to get a GB USB 64M Smart Card and stick some of the rarer games onto there

yes and no. There's some great games but not many which are 'that' great. It was a time when handhelds were largely hindered by hardware.

Two that I know aren't there are MegaMan Xtreme 1 and 2, very cool GBC games.
