Just finished playing through this little gem on switch VC. WHY do I never hear anybody talking about it? What a GOOD game. The artstyle is a delight, the controls are great, the animals paired with the copy abilities feels almost like Kirby 64 with all the extra abilities. If you haven't, I'd give it a shot!

>> No.6755928

It's not good though. Comparing it to Kirby 64 is also not a good sign. Play Kirby's Adventure and then compare.

Because people wanted Super Star 2 and we're upset that Dream Land 3 isn't that. DL3 is a much more slower experience that relies on atmosphere, experimental puzzle solving, and ambiance to deliver it's experience. It also creates challenge by restriction. As such many people get pleb filtered by it.

Welcome to the Dark Matter Trilogy!
https://wikirby.com/wiki/Dark_Matter_Trilogy
The reason Kirby’s Dreamland 3 feels so much like Kirby 64 is because Dreamland 2, 3, and Kirby 64 are part of a trilogy of titles by Shinichi Shimomura, a man who worked on the first Dreamland title and then took the reigns of the Dreamland series while Kirby creator Masahiro Sakurai developed Kirby’s Adventure and Kirby Superstar. All three titles in the series feature the villain Dark Matter, as well as appearances from Kirby’s animal friends, and Kirby 64 in particular has references to Dreamland 3 (the character Adeleine is believed to be the “Ado” you fight in KDL3, and also some of the songs return).

It was rumoured that Sakurai and Shimomura didn’t see eye to eye on how Kirby should play, and K64 was sadly the last game he directed for HAL. Fans have tried for years to uncover the truth of what happened to him, but he seems to have disappeared after the early 2000s, and Nintendo has declined to comment on his fate. One dark rumor is that he died of cancer and was working on another Kirby game when he passed.

Nah, there's a different structure between the Sakurai Trilogy and the Dark Matter Trilogy. While DL2 tried to be an Adventure clone with higher difficulty and multiple endings + animals, DL3 and 64 built upon the structure of DL2, just as Adventure built upon DL1 and Super Star built on Adventure. They're all still Kirby games, but the Dark Matter Trilogy doesn't use fundamentals of classical Kirby gameplay.

I'm perfectly calm anon. You're the only one getting bent out of shape here. You're just not making very many good points here. Saying it's not a Kirby game because it varies up level design with some environmental puzzles isn't a sound argument, especially when you consider the fact that plenty of titles, like 2, did this very same thing.

Even if what you said about puzzles was true, its core mechanics are consistent with the series. You inhale enemies, spit them out at other enemies, float, amd make air pellets, and levels are designed around these mechanics.

Like I said, I love Dreamland 1, but I'm not convinced by your arguments that 3 isn't inherently Kirby.
