Unfortunately PS1 games are a headache to translate. It's easy with NES, Gameboy, or SNES games where the graphics are literally stored like text characters but PS1 text is actually flatted polys so it's an absolute PITA to try and modify.

Pic related is the only entry in this extremely long-running series to be translated. I like this game, but it's extremely simple and it's based on the first game, which had already gotten at least one sequel by the time this came to the states. Just in /vr/ territory there were like twenty Winning Post releases, but interest outside of Japan is so low that even this official release has hardly any information written about it. Even on YouTube there are maybe four videos about it.

The point that annoys me the most about him and this sort of youtubers is that they absolutely can't be bothered to learn something that is deeply connected both with their hobbies and the kind of content they make. Like, it kinda reminds me of pc-98 threads where people appear to accept the fact they will never be able to understand plot in some games and opt to merely contemplating the art and music from them. Only in case of Thor there is a whole youtube channel dedicated to this, and I don't even know how I should describe it - almost like he settles for the cover of the book rather than actually reading said book, or this is the feeling I get anyway.

it's doesn't really matter, even on the psx, polygons that are normal to the screen ("flat") don't even have affine mapping artifacts ("warping"), nor is there an issue with the lack of floating point causing vertex jitter, since that again only shows up when dealing with vertices that land in between screen pixels, so doesn't affect regular 2D

tl;dr, the psx can do 2D just fine with it's janky polygons

Eop here. I actually learnt to read kana just for japanese pc gaming. I'm currently playing Slayers without understanding the plot because I don't want to wait another years for my language skills to improve, and just enjoy the fucking thing. I will provably replay it in a few months or years, when I've drilled enough vocabulary and kanji to understand what the fuck is going on there. But in the meantime, I can at least make my way through menus and haven't been roadblocked so far (and anyway, there are some walkthroughs on the internet for that).
I did the same for the Lakers series and made my way through the 3 games. Some kind anon even gave me a chart for managing the vn stuff in the third game.
Point is, you can genuinly enjoy some games with minimal japanese knowledge and a bit of effort. Sure, you miss a lot of stuff, but it's better than just drool at some screenshots while feeling frustrated.

>Point is, you can genuinly enjoy some games with minimal japanese knowledge and a bit of effort. Sure, you miss a lot of stuff, but it's better than just drool at some screenshots while feeling frustrated
Spot on! I guess some anons just don't believe they can learn while playing or reading whatever they want. Maybe it has something to do with a preconception that tedious routine and boredom await which might come to mind the instant you think about learning something as complex as a language. Thing is, learning is fun when you actually get to it, even more so when we're talking about learning with games.
