My opinion changes with the day but yeah this is for sure one of the best. I can really only compare games within the same genre though so “best ever” is so subjective on what genre one likes. As far as 2d platformers its the best I think, especially for its time. Its levels are short, fast and somewhat difficult. Feels like playing a cartoon. Secrets everywhere and I like the way the bosses are all slight variations on a common theme. Momentum and physics are great. Airships and scrolling levels are a cool new addition to mario. The Overworld is unnecessary yes but I think it adds to the experience. Powerups are the best in the classic 2d series imo. People like to compare it to world or the sonics or the dkcs and everyone can have their favorite those are all great games but I always just see what influences those games took from this one. And how it does certain things better than those games imo. I think what it did well has been imitated and expanded upon in so many different ways thats its gotta be up there as among the most influential. Now, influential doesnt always mean its a great game, but in this case, it does. Only criticism I can think of it the final bowser fight was too easy.

The last one is extremely underrated. It's a mega man-ish action game where you use mp to turn into several monsters, each with it's own unique gameplay, in-the-fly during the stages.
Still got the original cart in perfect state.

You'll find more gameplay in Joust than you would expect. Damn good game, especially if you try to improve your high scores. I generally don't care about scores at all, but it really adds a new dimension to the game.

I actually like the 2nd one more than 3.
The throwing mechanic is fun, the enemy designs are creative, and it's cool that it was the first Mario game to allow different player characters with unique abilities/characteristics.

I agree, Super Mario 2 Bros Mario Madness is a great game. I was lucky enough to play them in order as a kid, and going from 1 to 2 without knowing about 3, and at that age (summer before kindergarten) was a great experience. Mario 2 absolutely blew my mind, I remember that time vividly.

I think you just called me a contrarian fag. I really dont think the level design in SMW is better it feels rushed. SMB3 is going for the shorter, faster style of play. World goes for finding hidden keys etc. World had nothing to me that matchces those late airship/final world levels. Id say the level design in SM3 is one of the reasons I like it so much.
