Hello, /vr/

I'd like to make this thread solely to MML. What was your first time ever experiencing this awesome game? Were you a huge MM fan prior to it? Did you like it? Did you hate it? What about it made it a game you loved/hated? Who are your favorite characters etc...

And really anything else you'd like to talk about. It's by far my most favorite game. I've played and have MML, MML2 and Misadventures of Tron Bonne for good measure!

>> No.671542

I got MM64 for my 13th birthday. In fact, a Megaman Legends forum was the first online thingy I ever joined. Memories...

I'd played Mega Man games before, and liked them, but this one really had a different feel, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

>>671542

MM64? That's cool. I personally never played the 64 version so I don't know if there were any big differences between it and the PS1 besides controls. To get this game on your birthday, man, I could only imagine.

I remember buying my copy of the MML at a Toys R' Us I recall how it was probably like the only other place in town that had a new copy of it. I nearly shat myself in anticipation.

I remember picking up MML with my friend in like 3rd or 4th grade at blockbuster. We played it all night man, it was insane. I loved the game and asked for it for christmas or easter. Loved it so much. One of my favorite games.

The town was so cool and the characters really had depth with voice acting and such.

I really wish that MML3 didn't get discontinued. Capcom is so foking retarded these days.

I only played MM64 instead of Legends myself, anon

It wasn't that bad a port, I'd imagine the PS1 original had wayyyyyy better sound and music because of the format, but I still loved the game

I experienced MML the same way. I went to my local video store and rented it prior to buying it and was blown away at how cool the experience was.

At the time I didn't have a memory card, I think bought one soon after though. The music in the game is something that I really can never forget, it was all very appropriate and catchy. I especially liked the flutter music. You could imagine my glee when it was in the MML2 start screen.

I remember seeing an ad for this. I thought, "Cool, a 3D Mega Man game." I'm always like a change-up from the norm and it was a great experience. I fell in love with the MML world and characters, especially Roll.

I really loved the idea of finding items and having Roll build new weapons. You go around collecting a lot of stuff, but its all for a purpose. It was neat that she built more than just weapons, but equipment and buster upgrades, too. Goddamn, I love MML.

>> No.671843

I always loved Mega Man games growing up, so I remember seeing this game, and thinking of how cool of a change it would be. I can't recall how I even learned of this game, though my guess would have to be from a gaming mag.

I played the PS1 version of the game, and even though the story was whatever, I just loved going down in the dungeons, and being able to upgrade your weapons. What a shame that we'll see no more of this particular series.

I remember when I got this game, I had a crush on the women's clothing store girl, not the clerk, there was just this one girl in that store that was just automatically mai waifu.

I've been a Megaman fan since I was around 4 years old and rented Megaman 2 and 3 all the time. Around 2000, we finally got a Playstation 1 and I got Legend of Mana and Megaman Legends with it, and played the fuck out of both games, and I got Legends 2 maybe a year or two later. A few years ago, I stumbled across a copy of Misadventures of Tron Bonne and got it for $60.

>> No.674743

About 13 years ago I rented it.

It was pretty cool but I had a hard time with it so I left it there. Then I met this one guy on internet that was like the biggest megaman fan on earth (still is) and he showed me all these different megaman games.

At some point few years ago I decided to play it on PC, and I got used to the controls and everything in general, and ended up loving it except for grinding at the end.

Then I heard they were making 3 on 3DS and I was excited, so I left 2 for the day it would be released. Little did I know it was going to be cancelled.

And I haven't still touched 2. And a friend of mine gave me an original copy of it that is a bit scratched but still works fine, except it's PAL and... PAL sucks balls.

>> No.674749

I remember wanting MM64 so bad. When I was a kid I only knew Megaman as MMX, so I was expecting that but in 3D. I still have never played the game outside of emulation, and I feel that something wasn't right with the emulator because the controls seemed completely fucked. Probably played it for no more than 5 minutes.

>> No.674810

Maybe 9 years ago, I downloaded MM64. It was fucking incredible. I never owned a PS, and never figured out how to emulate PS games until this morning.

I've now got MML and MML2 to play and love. There's something about these games that truly make me happy.

I was going to buy a 3ds on launch specifically for MML3. Glad I waited.

My sister and I actually played through the first one and just had a blast with it. My buddy had MM64, and he and I would argue about the differences (of which there were none, I think).

He got Tron Bonne, and I got MML2, and we just enjoyed the fuck out of the games.

I don't think they needed to be marketed as Megaman games, but then, there's that tie-in with the whatever Megaman world lore. That's rad.

Favorite sub weapon was the Machine Gun arm. I dunno, it saved my ass so many times I just kept using it.

Me and my bro rented it from Blockbuster multiple times. I remember my brother got mad once because I triggered the scene where Megaman sees Roll naked or something while my bro was in the bathroom. He had heard about it from a buddy and was all excited and shit, I told him it didn't show anything but he still got all pissy.

I'm still so incredibly pissed off about this. Not even about the blame shifting or the clearly uninformed dickweed making up shit on the spot. But that this was the only actual window in on Capcom's rationale behind canceling Legends 3.

I mean when all else is said and done Capcom backed out on this in the least appreciable way possible. They declared it a failure before measuring the metrics the way they advertized they would. I mean they weren't even honest about when they did it. Looking back over the blog it's clear that they decided to can it when it was announced the game was "delayed" from the Eshop's launch. Then they pulled everyone but Kinako off the devroom who filled time in her usual way. Then just waited to announce it was canceled until E3 hoping no one would notice in the wake of UMvC3

But even then the official memo about the cancellation declared that the project wasn't about the game. But that instead it was only about an educational showcase, for Capcom's fans of everything but Mega Man Legends to see the inner workings of the development process... in process. But they then concluded that sentiment with the declaration they were done educating and the experiment was over. Rather than following through with the line and at least giving a specific reason or reasons it was terminated. And everyone else who was 'official' at Capcom played dumb about it. When this process had hired a staffer with no other purpose than to conduct correspondence between Japanese production and international fans, who still works at Capcom to my understanding.

I don't want to know who knew what and when or anything like that. I just feel like Capcom would have been on better footing if their apology wasn't "We deeply regret you care.".

It's my all time favorite video game. When I was 15, my brother bought it for the 64 and we were both hooked. Kattelox Island felt like home, we made back stories for the town locals. Remember the purple truck that drove around all the time? We called that guy "Jim". whenever we were too lazy to walk (before we had skates) we'd hitch a ride with "Jim". We got that into it. Worked to rebuild the town, did every sidequests. It was sick.

I finally beat it after school one day. My brother wasn't there to see it because he had moved with mom. It was the first time I cried watching a video game ending. To this day, I can't even play it because it won't be the same experience. It's the one game I wish I could forget all about just so I can replay it.

I'm curious what exactly are your principles on this? Capcom's not selling the game anymore. It's not on PSN, not available for production order, and they haven't put out a second printing or a re-release in any way ever, and had one of the most limited print runs of anything licensed on the PS1 in the first place.

It's your own business if you feel that shelling out $100-300 for a 3 hour game just because the CD is from the factory is the right thing to do. But what would you do after that? I mean if/when the CD itself deteriorates? Will you then be compelled to find yet another factory copy in the postmarket because Capcom never intends to manufacture any more copies and you'd never make a copy of the CD... which despite what licensing agreements indicate nowadays; is something a person is still legally entitled to do? Will you wait out until the work becomes public domain in 2219?

According to everything I have ever been able to research; that's not so. Mega Man Legends got ported for the PC and N64, and more recently got rereleased as on the PSP and PSN for JP only. Mega Man Legends 2 got ported on the PC, PSP and PSN all JP only. Tron's game and the pseudodemo/prequel accompanying its release in Japan "Rockman Dash 2 Episode 1" hasn't been ported, not even with the other ports of 2.
