So I remember being but a wee lad and renting the hell out of this game and thinking it was the most fun shit ever. Me and my friend stayed up all night and most of the next day taking turns playing this.

I finally remembered it and downloaded it and... Holy SHIT is it an awful fighting game.

Why can't there be a good retro DBZ game?

Alternatively, bad licence fighting games.

FInal Bout is really bad, but the opening was awesome.

Super Butoden 2 is my favorite DBZ game.

For your sake, I hope not.

There's just so much potential here, and it's absolutely wasted (the game, not me).

I mean, this was released the same year as Street Fighter III, and it's not even close to vanilla SFII in terms of quality. Hit detection is weird, combos are non-existent outside of special moves and if "demo" mode is on, you have no chance getting a beam move off on an opponent because it gives you the option of teleporting, blocking, reflecting, or taking it. Why would I ever take a beam hit when you PAUSE THE GAME to let me block it?

Also, hideous 3D models instead of glorious 2D sprites, but since this is an early PS game, I can understand why they did that.

I'm agreeing with you, I recently replayed it for the same reason as you (played it all night with a friend when we rented it). Emulated it for nostalgia's sake and my god it is a terrible game, I have no idea how the fuck I played it and enjoyed it in the day.

>Why can't there be a good retro DBZ game?

But there is. Apart from pic related, I also enjoyed the Budoten series (and UB22 if we take that as part of the budoten games) and Super Gokuuden, which was the Ultimate Tenkaichi of its time, but damn it was intense, and every fucking game over/lost battle had its own cinematic/perfectly logical evolution to the story which often results in shortcuts (if you lose to Chichi/Tenshinhan in the tournament, you don't get a game over, instead Piccolo gets mad and you fight him right away). A nice touch you don't see in games today.

Also, fun fact: Final Bout's title screen theme only glitches in every emulator but Mednafen

Super Butoden 2 guy here, I love Legends, probably my 2nd favorite after SB2.
By the way, UB22 is actually a shit game, the real last Butoden is Shin Butouden on the Sega Saturn, uses the same sprites from UB22, and has a roster as equally big I think, but plays like a real Butoden game, UB22 wasn't a Butoden, it was a bastard.

So I'm putting together this cable access show about the vidya games. I'm putting out an open challenge. In DBGT Final Bout there is a build up mode. If you beat up all the enemies using just one move that move gets way over powered. I've been spending a couple hours a month for a long ass time building up a character with all of his moves leveled way the fuck up.

The challenge is for anyone to come to the studio with their memory card and fight my character with one of their own. I doubt there will be many people in the area that actually have the game but if there is a challenger it becomes a battle of wills. Only the person with the most time to dedicate to leveling up their guy will win. What do you's guys think?

I really liked this game as a kid too. I liked playing as characters I've only seen online at that point because the one channel showing it here would restart the entire series whenever they felt like it.

I like Dragon Ball Z: Super Saiya Densetsu. When I started collecting Super Famicom games, it was the first one I bought.

Definitely true. But it's just going to be a short 15 - 30 second clip at the end of the show explaining the challenge in the hopes that some day someone actually battles their build up character to see who is the strongest warrior of all time ever.

What?

Have you ever played the build up mode? Its basically whoever has the highest power level wins. Back in the day me and my friend used to battle our level up characters. I had one that was level 111. The game is broken as fuck in a lot of ways.

That is the challenge. That's the entire point. It's a battle of wills. Who can slog through that shit to be the best. I'm not sure if there's a level cap as you can level past 100...how high does it go? Can I max out or is it infinite? I think it'd be a fun challenge.

This fucking game...

I had a beautiful SNES collection when I was little and then I went to a birthday party being held by a friend of my sister. The kid had a PS1 and was playing the crap out of Dragon Ball GT. I thought it was so cool that I instantly started selling off my games and then finally my SNES console to raise the money for a PS1 with DB:GT

I was a huge faggot as a kid, worst decision ever.

R-Type and Gradius are hard because they're poorly designed.

Cave's games are hard because they're fast and hectic, and require good reflexes and quick thinking. R-Type and Gradius are hard because they suckerpunch you constantly.

This and UB22 were ultimate disappointment

When they got reprinted was around the time I really got in to DBZ in middle school

All my friends were getting PS2 while I had gamecube so for the time in 2001-2 they had dbz budokai and I didn't but I had a PS1 and saw that there was this DBZ game for it called Ultimate Battle 22

I figured sure why not, how bad could it be...

I still own this game and GT FB but UB22 hurts so hard because for me it was my replacement for Budokai at the time

I don't see what the big deal is, honestly. Legends seems to be like an early and extremely low phased Dissidia. Maybe it's just the gameplay videos I've seen, but battles seem to take forever and it's just painful to watch those special animations like 15 times per battle.

long story short, there was a proto Latin dub based on the failed Harmony Gold US Dub, and it was cancelled after episode 50, then Intertrack re-dubbed those episodes with the japanese names, and the japanese openings, and starting with the fight of goku vs tao-pai-pai/general tao, they started dubbing from the japanese version.

Argentina.

>>679281

>Oh my god. Tell me that was just a typo on the magazine/album thingy there, not how you actually called Goku wherever you're from

As >>679457 explained, it was a retaded translation made by infamous Harmony Gold (who borught us Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada as "Robotech"), they called Goku "Zero", and Yamcha was called "Redacki". That thing you see there is an "Album of Figuritas" (sticker album), popular here in Argentina amongst kids during school, you buy a pack of 4 or 5 stickers at the drugstore, and trade them with your friends. As you go collecting them, you stick them on the album. There were several DB and DBZ albums on Argentina during the years when the DB boom started (1997/98), but this album here was the very first one (and in my opinion, the best, albeit awful translation), released in 1996 were only the first 10 or so episodes of DB aired on TV, and only parts of the DBZ movies were aired here on TV, during 1995 or so... this was because a toy company called Jocsa had aqcuired the rights from ban dai for some reason even though DBZ wasn't known here, we didn't know anything about DB yet, except the most extreme otaku of the time I guess.
The toys didn't sold it was a failure, but I guess they got a hold of DBZ footage from ban dai... and that's how it ended up being broadcasted on a videogame TV show called "Top Kids".

So what Cromy (the sticker album makers) did with the DB album was make it half DB, half DBZ... I remember getting this album as a kid, having only seen 10 eps of DB (dubbed as "Zero", so it didn't seem weird to me) and a bit of DBZ movies (didn't understood shit, but niggas be exploding everything so I liked it).
