What precisely makes this game better than 2? I dont feel it when I play. Not saying it's bad.

III is disliked by many, and thus, is popular among contrarians who like to feel better about themselves by holding unpopular opinions.

basically this.

It's OK, nothing special from my own experience, I've heard the jap version is better for some reason but can't be bothered.

Japanese version didn't have jacked up difficulty and allegedly the story is less stupid? Don't really care about that second point as my only knowledge of the story is that Mr. X is back again and Adam was too busy to help.

Never understood the hate. I was into that kind of music at the time, so it was perfect.

Ah I see. I'll give it a try one of these days, always up for a new jab and jog.

What the FUCK was Koshiro thinking with that soundtrack?

Well, I kinda know. It's sega telling him he can't plagarize dozens of chart r&b tracks like the entire 1+2 ost

M8, Yuzo was never ever hiding the fact that he drew inspiration from dance tracks of the late 80s and early 90s. He admitted to it and anyone who actually listens to house/electronic music at the time would have easily picked up on this.

Why are you guys always coming into SoR threads to mention this? It's entry level trivia like knowing Super Mario Bros. 2 was a different game in Japan.

3 is better in every single way, except from perhaps music which is a matter of taste anyway. It plays way faster and you are given more moves to play with, you can 'level up' your character, there's branching paths, there's more animations with bigger sprites, better story. It's just better.

>>6746116
JAP story is about nuclear terrorism and the game starts with a bomb going off killing 200k people, Western story is about "Mr X is back. This time with robots!".

>>6746191
He's said it is a way darker game, about nuclear terrorism and not about dudes going around robbing people (SOR2), so he made the soundtrack darker and crazier. Everyone seems to be shitting on the soundtrack because the first stage doesn't open up with the best track like SOR2 (and frankly, most games).

Go play the JAP version if interested in the game, translated or not, PAL/NTSC versions have jacked up difficulty and other stupid shit.

I haven't played SoR3 through since I was a dumb kid. What's this and how's it work?

>> No.6746289

I don't know what the problem is. It's based on popular club music of the time, just different genre than what was used in SOR2.

I dont remember the details, but if you get enough points without dying, you get a star near your character portrait. Instead of your regular forward-forward-punch move, you get a new one. You can stack up 3 or 4 stars I believe.

Explains why I never noticed as a dumb kid. That's a pretty slick mechanic. I enjoy it when games reward you for being good.

most it is literally not composed by him but by a computer program.

The only track and the only other bits and pieces that actually sound good are the ones which seem to be handcrafted.
Everything else is just a failed experiment.

The western release was missing a lot of content from the Japanese version. Also, there was no Max.

>It plays way faster and you are given more moves to play with, you can 'level up' your character, there's branching paths, there's more animations with bigger sprites, better story. It's just better.

All of that is of all little importance and are pretty superficial.
The most important things in a beat'em up are things like hitboxes, enemy diversity and AI, balance, etc

A good example of SoR3's inferior game design mentality when it comes to the important things is the way they tried to fix hitting offscreen enemies: you can't hit them at all and you're forced to back out and wait, making the fix worse than the issue it tries to fix.

My point is there are other and better ways to mitigate that particular issue. Final Fight allows you to hit enemies offscreen, but THEY can also hit you from offscreen, sometimes even charge you which really punishes you for abusing the whole mechanic too much, but without rendering the whole game a chore due to the constant waiting times like in BK3
>enemies goes offscreen
>player backs out and wait
>enemies comes back
>player advances towards them to punch/grab them
>they back out offscreen again

Meanwhile, Final Fight 3 also makes enemies leave the offscreen area from a different point and try to go around the player when he is trying to abusing hitting offscreen enemies. Well that system is not perfect in that game, it's something SoR3 could have improved.

Anyway, just an example.

Lol all that Techno/Detroit stuff sounded the same back then and they were all feeding off the groundwork that YMO laid down and using Roland 808s anyway, so Japan is just returning the favor.
