Important!

The latest versions of several popular NES emulators do not support edited versions of certain Konami games, including Ganbare Goemon Gaiden 2. The title screen will display incorrectly, and the game will most likely crash shortly thereafter, rendering it unplayable.

I can't fix that by editing the ROM, as the cause of the issue is within the source code for those emulators. However, there are still many available methods of playing the patched game with no issues, including:

FCEUX (2.1.4a and below)
Nestopia (1.37 and below)
FCEU-mm ("final" v0.98.13mm) (This is a fork of FCEU from before FCEUX incorporated the change)

Romhacking.net and some other similar such TCRF joined HG101 and the resetera newhalves in the dogpiling (Kalata's own term for what he was doing), and the translator got insulted and quit (but remember, he's now back and finished the final 3 SNES games!!!!).

I don't have a big problem with RHDN, and don't give a shit whether the games says tranny or not, but it's pretty clear to me they fucked up. We now have these very important translations out there, all while the hottest entry on the "Translations" section of RHDN this week is an indonesian translation of Mega Man Zero. It's true RHDN hadn't fucked up this bad before, but this was enough to damage their intended "the one place for all romhacks" position.

They didn't even force the situation, they just asked DDS to make Tom's own V3 alternate patch the only one available on RHDN to avoid getting "dogpilled" themselves, and DDS was like "oh FINE, whatever I'm sick of this shit". They meant it as a simple request, in good faith, just to prevent the torch and pitchfork crowd to come to the site... But intentions aside, by trying to play nice and safe they ultimately hurt themselves, as now other great romhackers will stop putting their content on the site because of this.

A Warner like "this translation reflects humors of a different era" disclaimer would have been more than enough.

HG101 "missed" a tranny that appears in the very beginning of the game and only noticed an obscure NPC somewhere really out of his way. It's obvious to anyone with two brain cells this wasn't organic, "woe is me, i was playing this game and suddenly the translator assaulted me". The conclusion is foregone and that was parallel construction to exact social excommunication on the sinner who dissed their horrible resetera forum. Goemon 4 has even more bait material. "Barely legal wife", only one of the four character quests is inoffensive (the newspaper delivery), the enemy design...

Kudos on the translation team sparing themselves the trouble of dealing with salty hobby intruders ordering them around (who admit to never actually romhacking anything, just in for the power trip, and surprise they have resetera ties)

From what I've played so far, the second is way better about towns, and has way less bullshit, but be ready for the Impact fights to be kind of hard. To give you an idea, it took me like 8 tries to beat the first impact boss. The actual bossfight itself was easy as fuck, like laughable.

As for easy mode goes, I liked the way Shin Sedai Shuumei handles losing upgrade: when you get hit, you lose an upgrade level but you also drop the upgrade item, it appears bouncing away from you, so you have a few seconds to get it back. Not sure how feasible would it be to implement it in the GG1 and 2, but it's something I think about giving a try someday. That, and giving all characters the same movement speed as Sasuke. I'd play a lot more with Ebisumaru if he weren't so slow.

Nah, the graphics are far more colorful and the animations are better. The combat feels less engaging and there just feels like there's less to do. There are the Impact battles and the openworld map system, but it still feels very streamlined, in comparison, for some reason.

Just finished the second game. I liked it more than the first overall even if there's some parts I'm not fond of (DIdn't like aiming Impact punches with a DPad).

Just beat 2 and barely started 3. Apparently, it references the of 2, but pretty vaguely and unimportantly. If you faster-paced sidescrolling than 1, less town interaction overall than 1, and harder Impact battles, you'll like 2. If you only like the Zelda style action-RPG gameplay of 3 and dislike sidescrollers (especially ones that are more barebones than the richness of GGA), you might not like it.

DDS' Twitter said "Resetera is cancer" and his very non-political buddy Tom ( aka "RetroTranslator") who translates games and nothing else, helped him translate Goemon SNES 2-3. Tom translated dialogue of a joke that features the Japanese dysphemistic slur "new half" appropriately as "tranny" in Goe 3, and then faggot Kurt Kalata from Hardcore Gaming 101 and his tranny friends at Resetera raged about it and tried to shame Tom into changing his finished and accurate translation to fit their personal leftist ideologies and then ordered him to apologize to everyone. Siliconera only published the article about Goemon 3 AND 2 when RHDN accepted that "version 4", very short time window and the timing was very coincidental.

Currently going through 3 and I think it might be my favorite of the SNES games. I like the more exploratory focus of the levels and overall game, and I'm glad to see the badly-timed laughtrack make its debut in the series.

About the submissions on RHDN, I think it's simply a matter of people innocently submitting it, other people against DDS/Tom reporting it, and other people against the site hosting work of an author they disrespected. Don't see DDS/Tom worrying about it at all.
