I like them, but they're not perfect.
the first one has slowdowns and sloppy controls, but has that sweeeet Jurassic Park feel to it.
the 2nd one solves all the slowdowns and control issues, but just.. has more of a killer action game feel going on instead of that neat "trying to survive the park" feel.

as far as i know there is two snes ones.
the ones that is 3d and like doom and the side scroller shooter one.
i think the genesis ones are more unique and in rampage edition the savanna level is pretty much like the snes shooter one.
genesis ones suffer from bad frame rate and faulty controls or environments. but they have alot of detail.

>> No.6729817

>>6729804

i sort of lose interest at the canyon and volcano parts. its either too difficult or just bad level designs or locations. The first 3 or 4 levels seem so classic.
it could also be the development team was going throw stages of creativity. i remember the last level did seem that great either. i don't remember the end boss.

I wish the Snes version had been more of an RPG kinda game, with quests instead of egg gathering.
and saving and finding people.

also a better island.

The gameplay is a bit clunky in spots, but Rampage Edition has a killer soundtrack. It helps that it and the first JP game on Genesis were developed by the same studio as Vectorman

>> No.6730657

there's some cryptic stuff in the first Genesis game, not like Simon's Quest baffling, but you have zero chance of making it through a level unless you already know what to do. you are going to have to die tons of times figuring out where you can walk and jump and climb without dying, and the graphics are not consistent about these things

doesn't change that I loved it and played the shit out of it as a kid. eventually I could breeze through the game as both Grant and Raptor

>>6730657
>you are going to have to die tons of times figuring out where you can walk and jump and climb without dying

Can't say I ever experienced the game like that, yeah some parts were harder but you're making it seem like you need a walkthrough.
the only confusing part is the end of the first level where the devs coded this never ending way down, and you just had to go to the right instead of going down forever.

The likeness is purely cosmetic, the first game feels larger and solitary, like Grant has been transported back in time and exists as the sole member of humanity in an ancient world of dinos. And then the idea of playing as the raptor vs humans is batshit insane and totally removed from the movie but works so well it's a blast to play.
I never much liked Rampage Edition, I've tried but it just doesn't click for me.

HOW THE FUCK are you supposed to beat the final level in the first one? you get stuck on the t rex bones and you cant kill the raptors below you and if jump down the t rex just kills you. i never beat this game as a kid despite being able to consistently get to the final area.

I'm still not sure, but I think you gotta let yourself fall down right inbetween the two skeletons and then chug grenades left and right. and all the bones should fall directly down onto the raptors.
very strange final battle, I blame the deadline. they really needed about 3..4.. months more to make it better.

The SNES and NES Ocean games where better, only drawback is there was no save/password system.

But the absolute best of the Ocean JP games was the one on Amiga and PC, it's birds-eye view like the SNES with FPS sections too but they look and play A LOT better. If you want to play it on the Amiga make sure to get the WHD version so you don't have to disk swap. The PC version is "abandonware" I think and can be run off Dos Box, but there is no controller support if that's an issue.

>>6742041

Such a shame that we never got an openworld (open island?) 2D Jurassic Park explore/adventure.
Shadowrun on Genesis was rather big, imagine if they had made it like that for the 16bit consoles.

Walking around as Grant, first trying to get back to the visitors center, riding that raft with the T-Rex chasing you in the water, finding the kids, restoring power, finding eggs, getting a first aid kit for Malcolm, finding more people? coming across Newman's wrecked car, just a ton of little things to do.

but they always go for the pew pew pew approach.
