Does anyone try and marathon a game, as in take a day off that you may have to try and get as far as you possibly can in a video game? If so, how do you prepare yourself for this? I enjoy doing this, but have a problem where I easily lose interest in the game that I am playing after VERY short periods of time.

I've never in my life beaten Resident Evil 2, so I've wanted to try and sit down one day and progress as much as I can, but I lose my interest in the game after around 30 min. to an hour. Not only do I lose interest in this game alone, but multiple other games as well (Final Fantasy, Banjo Tooie, Majora's Mask, MGS, etc.)

Anyone have any tips on how I can get motivated (or perhaps just "prepared") to beat a game and not become bored after such a small increment of time?

Maybe if you get bored of a game so easily, you shouldn't be playing it that much. Most of the games I enjoy I can easily play for extended periods of time without getting bored.

I've marathoned this game a couple times, but only out of necessity since I don't have a memory card or pak, whatever the fuck they're called.

if you want to do it without drugs, one way to help, especially with rpgs, is to watch a tv show, one that you've either seen before or isn't too intense or anything, specifically comedy, where you don't have to pay too much attention. i've watched all of wings and all of cheers and am now watching frasier all while playing retro games. it's a great way to make the long parts of the game awesome. i just pause the show any time i have to pay attention to the dialog.

although now i'm really hoping i have some weed stashed away...gotta go look

Last time I took a day off just for a game was N64 goldeneye. Saved my cash quick and bought it, meet with 3 friends and we played the crap out of that game at my place. Went on like this for almost a week.

As for what you can do to get into a game. Nothing, either you want to or not really. A post above goes on about watching something in the background, I emulate on PSP and do this often. It's a great way to play and if a game gets you hard enough than you will end up just turning the TV off.

Play my friend, play all you want but don't play for the sake of play.
