It was to me. Although it ended up being well over a thousand dollars for the console, 2 controllers, HD Retrovision cable, recap, RGB bypass, socketed Unibios 4.0 install, and NeoSD Pro. No regrets

If you want to play on real hardware, you'd be better off getting a consolized MVS. The games play exactly the same, but they are way cheaper.

>> No.6707903

Yes, but only if you can afford a NeoSD Pro so you play NeoGeo CD and homebrew games on it. The 164 in 1 carts are okayish though. I think once the MVS version is out though, you'd get better value out of a consolized MVS.

>> No.6707912

>>6707891
Well it depends what games you want to play but the """""cheapest""""" way to go is a JP console and Neo SD.

Next would be a CMVS w/SD or real carts.

Then JPAES w/UniBIOS and JP carts.

And finally rich bitch mode: US system and English carts.

I've been looking into the MVS+supergun route a bit, and it seems like it should come out significantly cheaper than even a Japanese AES.

Based on current eBay pricing:
>$60 MV1C
>$80 controller
>$40 basic supergun
>$25 power supply
vs. around $340 for an AES+controller from Japan. Am I missing something?

yes. always was, always will be. it's an arcade board as a console. not the other way around as other manufactures did it: converting their half assed consoles into better efforts for the arcade industry. yes, i'm look at you, sega.

>> No.6708165

It's a neat system but I'd wait to find one for a price you're comfortable with. You're not gonna find one for under $200 or so and if you do it'll be a busted up piece of shit that might not even work or come with a controller. Considering this is /vr/ chances are you're more keen on retro stuff than anything new. Gen 9's shaping up to be another terrible gen so I'd just forgo the hefty pricetag of those big honking wallet leeches and get the comparatively cheaper AES. Problem is the games. They come at like $100 a pop unless you find some retard who doesn't know what he's selling. Fat chance of that happening though, everybody thinks old = valuable in the retro game market and will base their asking prices off the horse shit on eBay. You don't know how many time's I've seen some rat try and sell Vegas Stakes on SNES for $20 or higher. Seriously, you'd be better off just biding your fucking time, man. Let the market simmer, and snatch one up when that prime opportunity strikes.

>> No.6708187

Blazing Star

Magician Lord
Prehistoric Isle
Windjammers
Twinklestar sprites

Good luck actually buying those titles on anything but MVS (accept for maybe magician lord, and it used to be a $40 game a few years back).

Man, the NeoGeoFaggots. Dion and Chris. These two chucklefucks take me back. The "Big Tymers" scam club, The fake Lost Odyssey proto, the KOF2k insert fiasco, the baby blue Porsche ebay shilling bust, SNK having the courts serve a warrant to recover NeoGeo World "collectables" from Chris' apartment (i.e. shit he stole from the themepark while it was in the process of closing down, including the fucking carpet), the absolute shitshow mud flinging megathreads over at NG dot com. The memories these two gay cornholes have given us over the years are to be treasured.

Dion was great for his monumental troll of the losers that inhabit the neo-geo.com boards. That place is a joke, and the way Dion inhabits the mind of every poster on there is hilarious. He's their version of the Devil, a guido bully that did everything from shredding SNK inserts to putting a chokehold on a sickly forum member with an oxygen tank that confronted him at an event.

You can't really root for either side, ng.com incel nerds or greasy guido, but standing back and watching the Dion saga was epic spectator sport.
